when a skater you're rooting performs poorly it's easy to transfer the frustration and sadness to other skaters. or the discipline as a whole. most of the time it simply comes down to the individual circumstance of that skater on that particular day.

Stephen GOGOLEV 🇨🇦 CAN | 165.99 / 232.72
On what he liked most about his free skate
Gogolev: I think the way I was able to get into character of the program from the beginning. And really, I think the support that I've gotten over the past 24 hours after the short program has been really great. I've got some good messages from a lot of people that I admire, a few people that are really close friends and just skaters I always look up to.
On his jumps
Gogolev: For the most part, it's something that I've been practicing and been going well in practices, but there were a few mistakes, especially on the Salchows, that usually don't really happen in training. If anything, mistakes usually happen mostly on the Lutz. So a little bit disappointed in that sense, but I was happy to give it a good fight today.
On how he prepared after the short program
Gogolev: I think firstly gaining that experience competing again after not competing for approximately eight months. So it's been quite a long time. Gaining that feeling of competition and really focusing on myself. And again, something that I've learned from this competition is trusting myself, considering the short program didn't go very well.
On the new six-jump limit
Gogolev: I feel quite indifferent to this kind of change from the past season. We're all in the same position to do the same thing, so can't really change what the rules are.
On his takeaway from Skate Canada
Gogolev: I think the main takeaway is definitely having confidence in myself and trusting the training that I've been putting a good bit in. I've had quite a bit of limited training going into this competition, considering the injury that I had over the summer. So I think from here, trusting myself and just putting in more repetition and training as much as I can. I'm happy that my body can handle it, obviously, and I can keep putting the reps in.
