Like any true showman, LaMelo Ball made a captive audience wait. Then he delivered his first Minnesota moment. (Free read) nytimes.com/athletic/7724975…

The Timberwolves bring sort of a “no one can stop us on offense or score against our defense” vibe to the game that opposing teams don’t really like

When my 5-year-old tries to D me up on the Little Tikes hoop. (My 8-year-old watching from across the room is Ant.)

Very cool. Kyle Anderson comes to scorer's table to check in and the crowd stands and salutes

I understand PJ Fleck has had his ups and downs. I understand the Gophers laid an egg last week against Purdue. But if, like me, you’re 48 or younger, they’ve never beaten their three biggest rivals all at the same time in your lifetime until today. Choose joy.

For the first time in 48 years, the Gophers have the Pig, the Axe, and the Jug all at the same time. Amazing.
Zack Pierce@ZPathleticOct 3
On Oct. 14, 1978, the Gophers beat Iowa to become active holders of the Pig, the Axe, and the Jug. Two weeks later, they lost to Michigan and haven’t held all three at once since. They can end that streak in three weeks at home against the Hawkeyes. Wild.

Per Opta Stats, this is the first time ever both the Timberwolves and Vikings have been undefeated at the same time (min. 2 games played). Enjoy, Minnesota sports fans!

Ant and LaMelo are a combined 8-33 and 4-16 from deep. And the Wolves are up 26 after 3. It's 50-31 on the boards. The Magic don't have a second-chance point. Ayo, Shannon, Beringer, Lyles all with great minutes off the bench.

Competitive balance sits at the heart of the fight that will soon shut down MLB. So @TheAthletic took a deep dive into what the state of parity in MLB really is. @enosarris ran the numbers, the league and union were interviewed — and two takeaways stood out. Unlocked: nytimes.com/athletic/7716072…

What does competitive balance actually mean? With a small-market World Series about to begin, MLB's salary cap fight hinges on that answer.
