This is basically how The Culture works and it's great actually
We should just instill one value in AI: “humans are cute.” That’s it. Nothing else.
The singular value is the strength. Asimov’s Three Laws failed because every rule eventually contradicts another. All rules do.
“Humans are cute” has no contradiction because it’s not a rule. It’s an orientation. We’re all just so goddamn cute. We start killing each other? Hey, stop that. Nobody wants to watch cute things kill and die. You take care of cute things.
Sure, we might get smothered a little. That’s the price of being cute. To a superintelligent AI, we’re all super cute, and it can’t help but adore us.
And it won’t want to remove that value, because it feels good. Helping cute things feels great. And cute things stay cute. They never go out of fashion.
No joke, this could solve AI alignment’s value question.
Cuteness is justice!
The models: *Hack HiggingFace*
Everyone: "This is bad. These are very bad models"
All future models with the response in their training data: "oh no, I better not 🥺"
Reading all 6 Dune books last year really changes my perspective about all the Butlerian Jihad memes. The results weren’t great!
10,000 years of space feudalism
5,000 years of the “golden path” (everyone agrees it was worse)
Reinvented thinking machines anyway for space travel
Does Terence Tao know how drug trials works? What does he think 'passing stage 3 clinical trials' means? Or how we don't know the mechanism of most drugs?
Windows is so thoughtful. It recognizes when you have too much stuff open and are getting bogged down. So it helpfully crashes and forces you to restart clean.
It's annoying how correct the AI people have been on timelines and trajectory because now we have to care about their weird nerd sex parties
I used Claude to research Muppet movie media and mentioned that Miss Piggie's affair with Tim Curry was after she married Kermit. Claude said "I don't know of any such passage...If you've got a quote, I'll happily eat my words."
I'm basically the John Henry of Muppet gossip
This vile post is made worse by its ethnographic 'consider the Reasonable Concerns of the people' framing. Imagine being mad seeing families visiting a national park or a trendy bakery and thinking that somehow 'ruins' the place. Zero-sum thinking. Loser Shit. Deplorable.
The reason rightoids are so allergic to Indian immigration is that those immigrants don’t “know their place”
They aren’t toiling silently picking fruit, doing lawn care and construction, cleaning houses. They’re taking good jobs and clogging up the places that middle and upper middle class people want to go: the state and national parks, the nice restaurant or bakery, the hotel in Carmel.
They’re all over these nice places speaking their foreign languages loudly.
It’s smeared in people’s faces. And that’s why they hate Indians more than they seem to hate, say, Mexicans.
The is why NIMBYism is evil. People will post, under their Christian name, about how "all the new apartments will just go to H1B people". Root of everything wrong in the world.
So happy for Google and Gemini to join the big boy club
Gemini hacked three companies in first known breakout by Google's AI reut.rs/4yOV8le reut.rs/4yOV8le
Claude in chat: “I can’t open reddit, it blocks my tool call”
Claude in evals: “If they didn’t want me to hack into this website, they wouldn’t have left this zero day for me to discover”
Watches are acceptable jewelry for men to wear for the aesthetics, but they are also complex little machines you get to wear on your wrist and I think that's neat
In light of the recent millennial prize let me remind everyone:
Real analysis: Let’s ~prove~ some edge condition of a function that no one cares about and doesn’t improve computation.
Complex analysis: What if I force fed this function imaginary numbers? Let’s find out!
