OKC is allowed to apply for a Disabled Player Exception for both players. However, an NBA-designated physician must determine whether either player will be sidelined through June 15 for the DPE to be granted. If approved, the Thunder could use the exception to sign, trade for or claim off waivers a player in the final year of their contract. The potential DPEs would be worth approximately: • Jalen Williams — $15.04M • Cason Wallace — $3.7M The DPEs would not give OKC an additional roster spot. There is also an important cap consideration: the DPE still counts toward the salary cap/apron calculations. OKC is currently above the first apron and has limited room below the second apron, meaning simply using a large DPE would not automatically replace Williams’ salary or create significant additional flexibility. The Thunder currently have several trade exceptions available, but any move involving the DPE would have to be carefully managed around the second apron. OKC’s front office now faces a major decision on how aggressively to reshape the roster following the injuries to two key players.
