Grants.gov is the worst website I have ever seen. They created files with file names they will not accept.
Our new micro XRF is here! Excited for all of the different research groups who are ready to do some great science!

Install and initial trials for our new Bruker M4 Tornado plus micro XRF spectrometer! Cool things coming soon 😎
It is wonderful that our students, Cannabis majors as well as others, are interested in these plants because of their therapeutic uses and not just because they are fun. I certainly was not thinking about that at 20. Merry Christmas Eve from @LifeatLSSU greenhouse.
I have a favorite pair of sunglasses and one of the students in our group thought I needed matching safety glasses.
Update: this won "funniest costume" in the campus costume competition.
Two students came dressed as me today. One is in my Gen Chem class. As Carli said "the scariest thing I could think of was someone who loves chemistry." She also entered into the @LifeatLSSU costume contest.

It's not completely finished but we have a functional cannabis grow room! Jon has put in a lot of work pushing through the final steps. Soon we'll have some cannabis bonsai plants. Also I had to take this picture through protective eye wear.
A huge thank you to Jon Hofmeister who volunteered to come in on a Saturday and help me work on our grow room. The room isn't done but it's almost there.
Some news about the NSF MRI grants @sponge_research and our group led. lssu.edu/news/lake-superior-…
We are happy to announce that we received the labs first NSF award to purchase a micro-XRF! This was a highly collaborative grant and we thank everyone involved, especially Co-PI @sponge_research
Why do aspen grow in genetically identical colonies?
Because they are all rooting for each other.

Our first group members are finally on our website! I'm excited to share that Mia Morgan will be working on Bigtooth aspen defense chemistry and Jon Hofmeister is working on Cannabis cultivation effects on secondary metabolites!

Post final interview: Advice to future Gen Chem students. Also.. I will see some of you in Organic 1 next semester! 🥰🥰
Researching Cannabis is wild. Sometimes you have treat blogs with the same attention as published articles because they're the only ones that have written about the topic you're looking into.
I got to teach students that s orbitals are like ogres. They enjoyed it a surprising amount. Might be a semester high.
