100 years ago this week, George Mallory, a British explorer on his way to a fateful attempt to summit Everest captured the vastness of Rongbuk glacier. Today, its dramatic retreat reveals the stark reality of climate change. ️ Almost 90 years later after Mallory’s image, a US climber, David Breashers took an exact replica. It showed the extraordinary extent of losses of ice here, on the roof of the world. Comparing the two images, Breashears said, ‘Deep in my heart when I see this landscape I think there is a problem, and I think people should know about it.’ There's still hope: on very low emission pathways, ice losses in High Mountain Asia will stabilize. There’s still time to #SaveOurSnow and Asia’s mountain water sources. 👉saveoursnow.earth
