Daenerys didn’t suddenly become ruthless in Game of Thrones. We just ignored the warning signs because we wanted to believe she was different. From the moment she gained power, she increasingly believed that her enemies deserved punishment and that her vision of a better world justified almost anything. She crucified the Masters, She burned the Tarlys, She threatened entire cities before King’s Landing. The difference was that early on, we could frame her violence as justice, But as her power grew, so did her certainty that only she knew what was right. King’s Landing wasn’t the beginning of that transformation, it was the moment there was nothing left to hide. Maybe Daenerys didn’t lose herself. Maybe power simply revealed who she was becoming.
