konate brings the physical authority, recovery speed and big-game experience. he’s already a premier league champion and knows what it takes to compete for the biggest honours. people forget how exceptional he was against prime vinícius in the 2022 champions league final.
elite 10/10 this season & one of the best centre-back in the world.
hujisen is operating at the intersection of two demanding roles: the traditional defensive responsibility of a centre-back + the responsibility of initiating + controlling possession from the first phase. because he's comfortable receiving on either foot, opponents cannot simply force him onto one side and expect him to lose his passing options.
huijsen and konaté leading madrid to the champions league final at the metropolitano in my opinion.
If madrid make it that far these two will be recognised properly.
previously, people were captivated by his composure, passing and ability to break lines. sometimes, however, he looked too comfortable prioritising the beautiful side of defending.
under mourinho, there's a noticeable emphasis on making him defend first, impose himself in duels and become more aggressive without sacrificing his ability on the ball. that development is important after the criticism he received last season.
what i expect from him in the big games
CL KO rounds: can he defend against the world's best forwards over two legs?
domestic cup competitions: can he maintain concentration when madrid face different attacking systems?
his ankles, balance and elasticity are a massive part of his game which i pay close attention too. he has that springy, reactive movement where he can plant his foot, shift his weight, change direction and accelerate almost instantly. even when a defender makes contact, he has the strength and coordination to stay upright, protect the ball and continue his run. that's what makes him so difficult to defend against.
Diomande elevates Madrid’s attacking ceiling. his explosive acceleration, elastic movement, TOP balance and ability to manipulate defenders in tight spaces give them a genuine one-v-one destabiliser.
the exciting thing is that his physical qualities complement his technical ability.
when Diomande is playing, the left back contributes to overloading and overwhelming the backline.
when Vini is playing, the left back is just a decoy and ends up being stranded when he loses the ball. He will never pass to Cucurella even if unmarked.
he wants the ball, takes responsibility, plays with personality and isn’t afraid to dictate games. the talent was always obvious, but now we’re seeing the authority and maturity to go with it.
arda güler is the best number 10 in the world.

The tactical development under Xabi Alonso is particularly important
Playing him as a left-sided No.8, rather than permanently keeping him on the right wing or as a conventional No.10, has opened up a completely different dimension of his game.
Bouaddi i feel sorry for him a generational talent Maresca rotting away on a bench like he’s some academy player.
long-term future and best position is as a No.10.

(6–4) NLD.
For me, that afternoon offered a glimpse of a potentially extraordinary footballer. Ballon d’Or-level ceiling.
The technical conviction to attempt and execute those things against considerably older opposition is what makes the performance even better.

8 games in, and nobody has more than Antonio Nusa's 10 G/A.
This is 100% his season to flourish and become a top tier LW.
Best U21 wingers in the top 7 leagues last season. Productive dribbles vs big chances created.
- Lamine on his own, obviously.
- Diomande settling in very well.
- City's Allan signing is just weird.
- Keep an eye out for Ouedraogo. Top tier creator, limited minutes though. Been suffering with injuries unfortunately.

For me, Luca Williams-Barnett is the best talent to come out of Tottenham’s academy and listen to the way the club captain speaks about him is already remarkable.
To have someone of that stature recognising your ability and making you feel that you could become the crown jewel of this Spurs side for years to come must be an incredible feeling. Tottenham have to get his development right.
I would take the argument somewhere completely different: the relationship between individual talent and collective dependency.
A genuinely exceptional player doesn't just make good decisions within a football structure but they change the conditions under which everybody else makes decisions.
Think about it. Once a player becomes sufficiently influential, the opposition starts making adjustments specifically because of their presence. Defenders narrow their distances, midfielders become more cautious, passing lanes shift, and entire defensive structures begin to prioritise one individual.
That now creates a second-order effect:
the player's influence extends beyond their actual involvement in possession.
Sometimes their greatest contribution is what they make possible for somebody else. A teammate receives more space, an overlapping full-back has a different passing lane, or an opposition midfielder is prevented from leaving their position.
This is something I think gets lost when we evaluate footballers exclusively through goals, assists, successful dribbles and individual highlights.
The highest form of individual influence is arguably making the collective function differently simply because you exist on the pitch.
That's a much more interesting way of evaluating a footballer than simply asking how good their individual attributes are.

zone-of-influence player.
football iq/brain - he’s doing it at the correct times.
Many players will have the technique and the brain but not the composure so choke/ghost in big games, many players have the composure/brain but not technique so aren’t good enough.
How many have all 3, at any point in their careers? Let alone at 15-16
I’ve been wanting to see Lamine given more freedom to operate in the No.10 position and Flick needs to do that this season honestly tired of the touchline stuff.
at 21, Nagida has time to become a genuinely complete modern left-back. the attacking foundations are particularly exciting.
Rennes is a perfect place to develop too and who knows could be an understudy to Nuno Mendes in the next 2 seasons max.
