There are Sanghi accounts from NI, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu constantly mocking Kerala’s so-called exceptionalism, reducing Malayalis to toilet cleaners in the Middle East and low-wage migrants in Bangalore. I have a good network of friends and professional connections across all these regions. This isn’t about them. This is for the Sanghi bigots who seem particularly offended by the idea of Kerala.
First, the Gulf migration story. Yes, the early waves of Malayali migration were largely low and semi-skilled workers. But that picture has changed considerably over the decades. Kerala’s migration has diversified into healthcare, engineering, IT, technical professions, business and education. The Kerala Migration Survey 2023 recorded nearly 2.5 lakh student emigrants, 11% of all emigrants. Among female emigrants, more than 70% had degree level education.
Second, the Malayali presence in Indian metros. Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi aren’t destinations for low-wage labour migration. They are also major destinations for Malayali students, IT professionals, doctors, managers, entrepreneurs and business owners.
Third, consider international mobility. According to MEA data, Kerala had nearly 99 lakh valid passports issued up to 2023. That’s marginally more than Maharashtra, despite Kerala having roughly a third of its population. This doesn’t mean every passport holder has migrated or works in a professional job. But it tells you something about the extraordinary international mobility of Malayalis.
And here’s something I find particularly interesting about our society. Historically, we’ve been a fairly self-critical community. We look at Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai and admire it and appreciate it. We criticise our own system and aspire to build something like it. But we don’t have to be jealous of your progress to appreciate it. Nor do we have to abandon our identity to integrate with the world. That’s perhaps one of Kerala’s most underrated strengths; being globally connected while remaining rooted in our identity.
The Kerala exceptionalism you see on social media is often a reaction to Sanghis, rather than an assertion that we have nothing left to learn or improve.

Yes because kerala don't act like inhumane like karnataka govt.
They shared their o2 to neighbouring states during crisis

Hating Karnataka while living in a district from where patients go to Mangalore for treatment is crazy.
These guys are nothing but frogs in a well, completely detached from reality and proudly ignorant of how outside world works. No wonder nobody wants to hire them
Imagine being this clueless and still having the audacity to say Cochin Airport sucks😂🙏
Still Kannur Airport handles half as many passengers as Mangaluru Airport despite being close to Calicut Airport, which alone handles roughly as many passengers as both Mangaluru and Kannur airports combined

Yes, interestingly, people from the Kannur region still prefer Mangaluru International Airport over Kannur International Airport for Gulf travel.

Just found that DNEG (ReDefine) has a studio in Trivandrum. (It's the visual effects company based in UK that produced and did visual effects for the movie Ramayana. They also won eight Academy Awards.

ആ പശ്ചിമഘട്ടം ഒരു 25 km കൂടി കിഴക്കോട്ട് മാറിയായിരുന്നേൽ എന്ത് നല്ലതായിരുന്നു.

Both cities offer strong tertiary care.
Kozhikode: Govt Medical College Hospital is among India’s largest (~3000 beds total across blocks), with super-specialty units including CVTS, transplants, and cath labs. Private options like Aster MIMS (~600-670 beds, advanced cardiac/pediatric, robotic surgery, large ICUs) and Baby Memorial (~500 beds, multiple cath labs, strong pediatric cardiac) provide high-end multi-specialty care.
Mangaluru: Dense network of teaching hospitals. KMC (Manipal) with Attavar (~600 beds) + Ambedkar Circle and PPP links to Wenlock (~1000 beds). Father Muller (~1000+ beds), AJ Hospital (advanced cardiac imaging), and Indiana Heart Institute (300 beds, specialized TAVR/laser angioplasty, NICU) serve coastal Karnataka and North Kerala extensively.
Mangaluru often preferred for Kasaragod due to proximity and referral patterns; both handle complex cardiac cases well, with some ultra-complex referred onward.
Lol, this is Kerala if Kochi had a population of 12 million
This is not from Kerala, this is Jayashankar Bhupalpally⛩️🛣️
And this straight road stretch starts from the signal point, where we lose all the network after crossing Boggulavagu😜

Some member of parliament should ask the Railway minister a starred question that why isn't kerala considered for HSR,
If they have considered , what parameters have led to de prioritising Kerala on the initial list.
