Roc-A-Fella's first entertainment lawyer, Louise West, looks back on early conversations with JAY-Z and his loyalty to Dame and Darien Dash:
“Jay, I said, 'Look, you're not signed, are you sure you're gonna stick with these guys?' He looked at me and hugged me and said, 'Louise, I'll be the last man standing at Roc-A-Fella.'”

Joe Montana asked to play with Barry Sanders in Detroit. The Lions told him no.
He had four Super Bowl rings. And he called the Lions coach himself.
The front office turned him down in two words.
In the video below, Barry repeats exactly what they said.
It was 1993. Montana was leaving San Francisco and wanted one more shot with the best runner in football.
Wayne Fontes took it upstairs. He came back with the answer and had to tell Montana no.
Montana went to Kansas City instead. That same season, he took the Chiefs to the AFC Championship Game.
The best quarterback of his generation and the best runner alive could have shared a backfield. Detroit passed over a birth certificate.
On today’s market, Montana’s deal would be worth about $45 million a year. Barry’s, about $42 million. Detroit could have had both. What they really made is in the article below.
Matt Damon reveals his wife, Luciana, suffered a brain aneurysm and had surgery the week before the Oscars where "Oppenheimer" won best picture. The couple made it to an after party to celebrate.
“I remember I was shooting second unit for ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ during that Oscars [where ‘The Departed’ won], so I didn’t go,” Damon told GQ. “I was living in Miami at the time, and I had an infant. [My wife] Lucy and I were laying in bed watching it and so nervous for Marty. And then when he won [best director], I was jumping up and down in the bedroom and I remember being really excited. And then the next category was best picture, and ‘The Departed’ won. And I realized in that moment I hadn’t even considered that could happen. And I turned to Lucy and I was like, ‘Sh*t, we should be there!’ And then the next few weeks, I got all these calls from all the cast and the studio, like, ‘Hey, where were you, man?’ I totally blew it.
The next time that that happened was on ‘Oppenheimer’ and we had this whole scary thing happen where my wife had a brain aneurysm. She’s totally fine, thank God, but [she] had this brain surgery the week before the Oscars. But it was the first night she felt good enough to get up and had her energy back. And she surprised me and got a dress and we went out to the after-party, because she remembered that the last time it happened, I didn’t do it. And she was like, ‘This time we’re going out.’ And it was pretty f*cking heroic of her to do that and really meaningful.” (via GQ)

STATEMENT FROM JACK CAMPBELL
My family and I want to sincerely thank everyone for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers, and support we’ve received over the past few days. It means more to us than words can express.
I’m incredibly encouraged by the progress I’ve made in such a short period of time. I have full movement in my lower body, and I’m continuing to make progress with movement in my upper body. I know there’s still work ahead, but I remain very optimistic. I’m taking things one day at a time, staying positive, and focusing on getting better.
My faith in God has never been stronger. I know He has a plan for me, and I trust in that plan. I know there may be challenges ahead, but with my faith, my family, and so many people in my corner, I know we’ll get through this.
I especially want to thank the athletic trainers and medical personnel who responded and cared for me on the field. I know those were difficult moments, and I’m incredibly grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and care you showed me. The way you handled everything and looked after me when I needed it most is something I’ll never forget. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
I also can’t say enough about the incredible care I’ve received from the medical team at Henry Ford Hospital and the Detroit Lions medical staff. They’ve been amazing to me and my family throughout this process, and I’m truly grateful for everything they’ve done.
To my teammates, coaches, and everyone in the Lions organization, I want you to know how much I love and appreciate you. This team is a family to me, and the way everyone has been there for me means everything. I’m proud to be a Detroit Lion and couldn’t ask to be surrounded by a better group of people.
One thing I’ve learned about Detroit is that this city is built on toughness, resilience, and grit. That’s exactly how I’m going to approach this challenge.
Please continue to keep me and my family in your prayers. We feel the love, and I can’t thank everyone enough.
God is good. My faith is strong.

The Warriors are not delivering payments to Kristaps Porzingis on his $20 million salary, ruling that he is not rendering services, sources tell me and @anthonyVslater. Golden State is permitted to move his contract at any point before the Feb. 11 deadline even without paying him currently, and will continue exhausting trade avenues as the 31-year-old leans toward ending his NBA career.
Absorbing Porzingis' near-expiring deal would allow a rival team to move a salary out and save money and clear a roster spot via a buyout.
