Sure Orthodoxy is not an ethnic religion, but boy when these feasts come around I sure am glad to be surrounded by a large number of Greeks and Serbs

A pal of mine was on one of these trains. He's okay (concussed) but please pray for everyone involved and for the souls of the deceased.
BREAKING: 🇪🇸 At least 39 killed in high-speed train collision in Spain The crash occurred on the Madrid-Andalusia high-speed line in Toledo province when a Renfe train and an Iryo train were involved in a rear-end collision. The force of the impact caused at least two carriages to derail and plunge down an embankment. Spain has seen at least five of its deadliest rail accidents this year alone.

All this tweeting about the sun setting an hour earlier starting on Sunday and how sad and depressing and forlorn life’s gonna get is only so much manipulative and mendacious gaslighting. These pearl-clutchers want to make us think that Standard Time is some vestigial cruelty of a bygone era; that the sheer perversity of short winter days and long winter nights must be blamed on negligent, misanthropic senators rather than on the tilt of the earth’s axis at 23.44º. As if we as a civilized society in the Current Year should have long since moved past leaving work after sunset! Yet somehow these weepers and wailers never bring up the obvious corollary: shouldn’t we in the Big ’26 have long since moved past going *to* work *before sunrise*? They don’t bring this up not because it doesn’t occur to them, but because it doesn’t cater to their goals. No, for them, sunlight in the evening matters; sunlight in the morning does not. Why? Because the former gets us focused on leisure, entertainment, golf, halloween candy, and commercial profit; the latter gets us focused on vigor, work, and study by day, followed by quiet rest and deep sleep by night. The former fills their pockets; the latter makes us sane. We should relish our quiet, dark, fall and winter evenings! They’re delicious. They’re a healing balm after the activity not only of the day now over – a day that was energized by bright, early-morning sunshine – but also that of the long, verdant and vibrant summer now past. But these people don’t want us to enjoy winter evenings at home, inside, in warmth and peace, with all the interior contentment and contemplative coziness that are bound up in that great but now rare word: “hearth.” Part of the problem, of course, is that we either can’t or won’t learn how to make our own homes places of beauty, places where we *want* to be. Instead we flood them with overhead lighting and fill them with screens, so that even when we’re at home, we’re not. And I bet there’s a big overlap in the Venn diagram between the permanent-DST-foisters and the people who started this trend of mounting TVs directly above fireplaces – so as to gut even the idea of the memory of what a quiet family hearth might be like. In the U.S., the year used to be evenly split between standard time and daylight saving. That still wasn’t ideal. But then Big Candy and Big Golf got standard time reduced to only a third of the year: November through February. It’s only during those four months that midday is truly at noon and midnight truly at midnight. In the other eight months, we set the clocks an hour fast – we get up an hour earlier – and thus we can pretend that the sun goes down later. So for all you corporate pearl-clutchers out there howling and writhing as this weekend approaches: what’s your motive? Cui bono? (Painting: Adriaen van Ostade, A Talk by the Fireplace, c. 1640)
Clocks will go back on Nov 1 making it dark at 430 pm. This is a travesty for kids & adults no longer able to do any outside activities until we get back to daylight Savings Time in Spring. All because the RINO's in the Senate wont pass the DST bill!! This is how the cabal wins keeping us in the dark LITERALLY. You all need to holler about this on X in the upcoming days . Let's see who'll post about it Lets see who'll VOTE tomorrow all R so we can pass the make DST permanent bill ASAP YOUR VOTE MATTERS

I took a vow to avoid Dune Part 3 trailers even though I watch the first two movies on a near-monthly basis. I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep my promise.

When I was not religious (most of my adult life) intra-religious squabbles looked really silly. I thought... you guys all believe in God. you know how much more you agree with each other than any of you do with me? I still feel echoes of this quite often

I'm hosting a super duper fancy 5-course dinner tonight at the nicest restaurant in our city. The entire theme of the night is everyone listening to me blab about astronomy. I've never done something quite like this. Please pray for me if you remember!

Reading is one of the best things you can do and costs like $20 for six hours, tops. In many cases it's free. The people who make it possible live in penury and the whole modern economy is organized against it.

Everyone's gonna get angry about this but I don't feel anger, only sadness.
AI generated music is 1000x better than real music. Today I canceled Spotify and SiriusXM because I finally tested Suno. What sold me was the first prompt I gave it: “My favorite artists are A Day to Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, Spiritbox, Bad Omens, and Sleep Token. Analyze all their hits and generate a song I’m likely to love based on those artists.” It one shots an absolute banger in 10 seconds. I'll link the song in the next tweet for anyone curious. Why would I ever go back to Spotify/SiriusXM when I can generate music perfectly tailored to my taste on command, for free? Not affiliated with Suno in any way btw, it was just one of those moments where I was so impressed with AI’s capability I had to say something about it.

The duality of Gen Z socializing: 1. it's probably true that having a good social / community life has never been harder 2. You cannot use that as an excuse, and must find a way to live a full life regardless
We CANNOT even afford hobbies. We CANNOT afford to go out with friends. We CANNOT afford to exist anywhere outside our homes. They then call it a mental health crisis. It's not. It's an affordability crisis.

He has his schtick of being a maybe-autistic guy with poor social skills - but when you watch him in action, he's mastered the art of getting people to be vulnerable with their thoughts/actions. That's how he does what he does, and for better or for worse I find it enthralling
