As we celebrate 60 years of Legal Services of Greater Miami, we honor the extraordinary legacy of Marcia K. Cypen, who dedicated more than four decades of her life to leading our organization as Executive Director.
Throughout her remarkable tenure, Marcia helped shape Legal Services into a pillar of hope, advocacy, and justice for those who need it most.
Her leadership was rooted in the belief that access to justice is not a privilege, but a fundamental right, and her tireless dedication helped ensure that countless individuals and families throughout Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties had a voice when they needed one most.
Marcia’s dedication to Legal Services extends far beyond her decades of leadership. She remains a cherished mentor, steadfast supporter, and integral part of the Legal Services family, continuing to inspire generations of advocates through her wisdom, generosity, and unwavering belief in the power of equal justice.
Her legacy is not only reflected in the organization she helped build, but in the lives she touched, the people she inspired, and the enduring commitment to justice that continues to guide our work today.

For 60 years, Legal Services of Greater Miami has stood with our community through times of uncertainty, hardship, and change. When Hurricane Andrew devastated South Dade in 1992, Legal Services established a disaster response unit to help survivors navigate the legal challenges that followed. From securing survivor benefits for two infants who lost their parents to representing hundreds of families for more than a decade, this work helped individuals rebuild their lives and move forward after unimaginable loss.
As we celebrate six decades of impact, this chapter of our history serves as a reminder that access to justice is essential in times of crisis. Through every challenge, our commitment to protecting the rights of our neighbors and helping our community recover remains at the heart of our mission.

The late Congressman Lincoln Díaz-Balart began his career as a staff attorney at Legal Services, carrying with him a lifelong commitment to public service, equal justice, and protecting vulnerable populations. His belief that access to legal representation is essential to a fair society continues to inspire our work today.
Six decades later, that belief continues to guide our work as we advocate for individuals and families across Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
