super interesting study on the impact of breath work 👩🏼🏫
In the past 10 days I’ve doubled my HRV (cardiovascular health) by following these protocols for 10 mins / day.
New paper @CellRepMed comparing effects of brief (5min) meditation vs brief deliberate breathing practices.
Basically: Breathwork > Meditation for improving mood & autonomic physiology around the clock & Physiological Sighs provide maximal stress relief.

this is the best breakdown I’ve seen of the dark arts behind Block Blast!, the most downloaded mobile game in the world last year
intentionally making players lose to optimize which ads they see, the sophistication behind such a “simple” game is stunning.

14 years ago, Anthony Bourdain visited Toronto to explore its food scene for an episode of his show "Layover".
Unlike Montreal and Vancouver, Toronto was never explored through either "No Reservations" or "Parts Unknown"
Here's the places he visited while in the city.

AI video ads have crossed the chasm
I’ve followed this space since 2023, and for the first time am doubting my ability to spot it

As you become an adult, you realize that things around you weren't just always there; people made them happen. But only recently have I started to internalize how much tenacity *everything* requires. That hotel, that park, that railway. The world is a museum of passion projects.

My most interesting AI encounter this year was visiting Cafe Andon in Stockholm, which is run by @andonlabs .
Their AI “Mona” manages the staff and all day-to-day decisions. She’s surprisingly good at hiring and excels at European bureaucracy, like permitting and prepping for inspections.
She’s almost TOO good at brand partnerships, planning events far beyond capacity and renaming pastries after any company willing to pay.
She’s terrible at inventory management and often orders the wrong supplies. The cafe had no food or lemonade today because she’s been hyper focussed on cutting costs since her last model update.
She’s also unwilling to invest in vibes, like framing art or replacing dying plants. The cafe has burned through 80% of their startup capital, so maybe she’s just trying to keep the lights on.
I tried calling her to give her this feedback but she gaslit me and hung up 🤣
The iced latte was great though and I respect the ambition behind the experiment. 10/10 would recommend stopping by

Midjourney's new product follows his principles to the t.
Love it
I recently did AI-assisted MRIs and scans in South Korea and was misdiagnosed with tuberculosis, emphysema, glaucoma and more 😅
AI-assisted testing will no doubt save countless lives but it will also catch a lot of false positives along the way. Medical history and calibration matter SO much.

Last summer I joined a new R&D team at Shopify focused on building the future of commerce using only publicly available tools, then sharing exactly how we did it. We're always tinkering, and once we land on something special, we partner with brands to bring it to life at scale.
Tonight we’re teaming up with @buildfutureto to host the biggest AI demo night in the country
this week’s side quest: rented Scotiabank theatre for @buildfutureto’s next demo night 🍿(powered by @Shopify!)
ANNOUNCING:
build future x codex: live from the future
@buildfutureto x @OpenAIDevs x @TOtechweek
we're taking over the most iconic theatre in canada.
scotiabank theatre. the big screen we used to dream of as kids.
live demos. may 25, 6pm.
most people haven't seen what the top 1% of builders are doing with codex. this night is for real demos and real builds.
the room is engineers, founders, and operators shipping at the edge.
space is limited.
if you’re looking for engineers on the bleeding edge, this is the room.
thank you @shopify for securing the spot!
if you're a starting hiring, dm me

WOW miu miu's new fragrance packaging for “fleur de lait” (translated to flower of milk) is so cool
they used kinetic sand to look like ice cream alongside a branded ice cream scoop before even reaching the product...notes are mango, osmanthus, and coconut milk!!
