Frankfurt Airport must be the worst airport in Europe. I don’t think I’ve ever passed through here without it being complete chaos 🫠

During my PhD, we could spend years discussing whether to do a single sequencing experiment. My postdoc has been… quite a different story😅 Another 70 libraries done.

This is so true
Doing a PhD is - at heart - one long discussion with your mentor. The discussion changes over time - with unexpected turns and ups & downs - but through it all is two people discussing a topic endlessly to make sense of it. PhD students: choose someone you like to talk to.

We, the Weizmann Institute of Science community, deeply mourn the passing of Prof. Ada Yonath of the Institute’s Chemical and Structural Biology Department. Prof. Yonath pioneered the study of the ribosome, the cell’s protein factory, and was awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her research in this field. Her decades-long scientific journey led to an understanding of how various antibiotics work, helping pave the way for the development of new antibiotics and the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Yonath, the first Israeli woman scientist to win a Nobel Prize, also received dozens of other awards and honors, including the Israel Prize in Chemistry and the Wolf Prize in Chemistry. Prof. Yonath exemplified how scientific vision, the courage to choose a major scientific question and unwavering dedication to its pursuit can lead to extraordinary achievements and expand the boundaries of knowledge for the future of humanity. May her memory be a blessing. bit.ly/ada-yonath-eng

Almost thought I’d made it through a whole paper without a mention of condensates. But no, last paragraph. Bingo. Nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of condensates.

When you’re in full manuscript-writing mode, have lab meeting coming up, and your apartment decides this is the perfect time to fall apart 🙃

The U.S. State Department is warning Americans in Israel, Iraq and Jordan, to exercise heightened caution due to escalating tensions across the Middle East, citing the potential for further conflict and sudden travel disruptions in several newly issued advisories. U.S. citizens currently in the region are advised to consider departing while commercial flights remain available, or be prepared to leave if the security situation deteriorates. The advisory warns of possible flight cancellations, airspace closures, and other transportation disruptions. The State Department also cautions that Iran and Iran-backed groups may target U.S. interests worldwide, including embassies, businesses, and locations associated with Americans, noting that the conflict has expanded into areas not previously targeted, including Egypt. Americans are urged to remain vigilant and reconsider non-essential travel to or through the region.
