Greatest game ever played in the Liacouras Center. Owls came back from 10 down in the final 3:36 to win it. Can’t say enough about Pepe Sanchez’ heroics…

Funny: Pat Murphy, not a tiny man, was given a middle seat for all 3 flights to NY for his Mets manager interviews Not as funny: The Mets seemed ready to name Murphy but changed their minds at the last minute and hired Carlos Beltran, who lasted zero games

KC Keeler opened his Monday presser with a response to recent speculation that Temple is not adequately resourced in comparison to its American Conference foes: “We have the biggest recruiting department in this conference. Our salaries are … at least in the middle of the pack. Rev share we’re guessing we’re around half. So this is a KC Keeler problem. This is not a John Fry or an Arthur Johnson problem.”

I still say there should be one day where there are only three games on the schedule and it should be the Original Six playing…

Arthur Johnson has a perception problem at Temple. The concerns I've heard from people around the program are becoming increasingly consistent: Not enough resources. Not enough alignment. Not enough urgency. Keeler has his own questions to answer. I explain why in today's article.

Bob Costas was 18 when his father dropped dead at JFK airport. At the wake, a man handed him a thick envelope with $6,000 in $100 bills. It was everything his father left behind, and a bookie would never have paid it to a dead man. In the video below, he tells the story himself. His father, John, was a big-time gambler. Not casinos, not racetracks. Ball games. Bob says the mortgage was literally riding on his bets. When the games went the wrong way, he threw things, cursed and yelled. Bob’s mom and sister would leave. Bob stayed, because watching the games with his dad was the only way to be close to him. Friday, May 15, 1970. A cop knocks on the door. Before he says a word, Bob’s mother asks, “My husband’s dead, isn’t he?” John Costas had a heart attack walking through JFK. He was 42. At the wake, one of his gambling buddies walked in with the envelope. “Your father was up when he died. Give this to your mother.” A bookie never pays a dead man, so the friend went to the bookie himself and said John sent him to collect. Decades later, Bob Costas refused to read sports betting ads on air. Today the bookie lives in everyone’s phone. Is that progress?

I asked #NYR Mike Sullivan why he took Pavel Dorofeyev off PP1, and then put him back on the unit: Sullivan: “You want to know the answer?” *Me frozen in my tracks with a pause: “Yes.” “Yes? Okay, so I’ve been asking the power play for a number of games now that the first unit—they have to change smarter. And when the puck gets dumped down 2 or 3 times, and they’ve got to go 200 feet to get it and then work back into the offensive zone, they should change — and Pav didn’t. At some point, there needs to be some accountability around it. Unfortunately for Pav, he was the guy. I told the power play guys that, we have to be smart. We've got another unit that's pretty good also. We’ve got some good players on it. And I know Pav is well intentioned and he’s trying to do the right thing out there, but we have to have a sense out there, all of us, when we’re on the power play and when you extend your shifts, usually that’s when bad things happen. You’re tired, you don’t think and execute the same way. A lot of times you can give up goals against in those circumstances because you don’t have the juice to play the game the right way. And we’ve been asking our group for a number of games now to change at the appropriate time. And so, if it falls on deaf ears, then you have to take other measures.”

Endy's catch was 7305 days ago. There were 7299 days between the Buckner ball and Endy's catch. Endy's catch was closer in time to the Buckner ball than it is to today.
20 years ago today, Endy Chávez made his unbelievable home run robbery in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS
