The man pushed shopping carts toward the guard, and another worker launched a two-liter bottle of Coke straight at his head. Down he went. I understand the frustration of watching someone try to walk out with merchandise they haven’t paid for. But throwing a full bottle at someone’s head could cause a serious injury. Here’s the problem: Employees are expected to protect the store, but when they physically intervene, they could end up facing consequences themselves. Stealing shouldn’t be tolerated, but neither should employees have to risk their safety or careers to stop it.
