After nearly two years of protests and a victory in parliamentary elections, Serbian students have returned to the streets β this time armed with rags, brushes, and cleaning supplies. Alongside volunteers, they're removing graffiti and cleaning underpasses, walls, and public spaces.
The protest movement began after the Novi Sad railway station canopy collapsed in November 2024, killing 16 people. In the October 25 elections, the student-backed list won around 53% of the vote, while Aleksandar VuΔiΔ acknowledged defeat.
Now, members of the movement say they want to reclaim their cities and open a new chapter in Serbia's history.
First they cleaned up politics. Now they're cleaning up the streets.

What I had previously only suspected on instinct has now been confirmed.
It turns out that the absurd βMelania Trump ceasefireβ in Oleshky was literally Putinβs idea. He personally βvery much wantedβ Melania to act as mediator, her senior adviser Mark Beckman told the Kyiv Independent.
Well, you could have guessed that, and I did immediately. A person who can barely string two words together was hardly going to organize something like this better than the Pope.
More than that, Putin sent her a special letter saying that Russia officially recognized Melania as its βexclusive intermediary.β
Do you understand what that means?
Russia has occupied Oleshky for four and a half years, blocked the city, prevented humanitarian aid from getting in, and driven the remaining residents into an acute shortage of food and medicine.
And then Putin picks Trumpβs wife as the person who will be allowed to βsolveβ the problem.
And he does it right before the elections, when Trumpβs collapsing ratings desperately need saving. Trump, the politician who is now effectively helping Putin force Ukraine into capitulation.
The White House has already announced that it was Melania who βsecured the ceasefire,β while four journalists from Newsmax, Trumpβs pet TV network, have been sent to Oleshky as βneutral observersβ to present the entire operation to an American audience in exactly the right light.
You can bet your ass they wonβt just advertise the orange ape as the greatest humanitarian genius in human history. Theyβll advertise Putin right alongside him.
