Mozambican National Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison After Being Caught Bringing a 60mm Military Mortar Bomb Into South Africa Through Lebombo Border
A 26-year-old Mozambican national, Antonio Charles Mugabe, has been sentenced to 10 years’ direct imprisonment after pleading guilty to importing a military-grade explosive device into South Africa through the Lebombo Port of Entry in Mpumalanga. The Hawks secured the conviction following an investigation into the incident, which raised serious public safety and national security concerns.
Mugabe appeared before the Boschfontein Regional Court on Monday, 26 October 2026, where he pleaded guilty to three charges: possession of an explosive device, transportation of an explosive device and importation of an explosive device into South Africa. The charges relate to an incident on 23 August 2026 at the Lebombo Port of Entry in Komatipoort.
During a joint border security operation, South African Police Service (SAPS) members and South African Revenue Service (SARS) officials were screening travellers entering South Africa from Mozambique. Officials scanning Mugabe’s luggage identified a suspicious object concealed inside his travel bag. A subsequent search uncovered a 60mm mortar bomb, prompting his immediate arrest at the port of entry.
The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit in Nelspruit investigated the case, which was transferred from the Komatipoort Magistrates’ Court to the Boschfontein Regional Court. Mpumalanga Hawks provincial head Major General Nico Gerber welcomed the sentence and praised the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies in intercepting the explosive device before it could reach South African communities.

While we are taking these illegal guns off the streets, it seems our opposition keeps showing them off. 🚨
The DA will fight for law and order and beating crime in Cape Town, removing these weapons from our streets, and making communities safer for all! 🔵🇿🇦

I work to make communities safer. You have phone calls with gangsters.

🚨 BREAKING NEWS!!! SOUTH AFRICANS, ARE YOU PAYING ATTENTION? 🇿🇦🔥
Cyril Ramaphosa's government is moving asylum seekers' registration from Home Affairs offices to BORDER GATES!
This means asylum seekers could go straight to the border and apply instead of entering the country first!
BUT HERE'S THE PART THAT RAISES SERIOUS QUESTIONS! 😳
Asylum applications will be APPROVED IN LESS THAN ONE MINUTE!
ONE MINUTE? HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?
🔥 MY POV:
I believe moving these applications to border gates could be a strategy to avoid the community protests happening around immigration offices.
Think about it!
Border gates are far away from most communities. Applicants, including those from Bangladesh and other countries, could complete the process without facing the same public scrutiny.
But my biggest question remains:
HOW DO YOU VERIFY SOMEONE'S IDENTITY, BACKGROUND AND ASYLUM CLAIM IN LESS THAN 60 SECONDS?
If this is how the system will operate, South Africans deserve a proper explanation!
WHAT EXACTLY IS GOING ON AT HOME AFFAIRS? 🇿🇦

Today, SA First Forum and Afri- Forum had an extensive meeting with Kgosi Phaahla regarding the issue of foreigners taking him to court because the traditional authority is exercising its authority by ensuring that it removes illegal occupiers of the land belonging to the Authority! We have agreed to help with the Court case.
