Yesterday, Nigeria lost brave men and women of our Air Force in the service of our country. This is a painful moment for our Armed Forces and for the entire nation. Our Air Force personnel put their lives on the line every day to secure Nigeria. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Behind every uniform is a family. A spouse, a child, a parent, a brother or sister who expected their loved one home. Nigeria grieves with them. I have declared three days of national mourning and directed that our flags be flown at half-mast throughout the country in honour of those we have lost. The Chief of Air Staff has briefed me, and I have directed the Nigerian Air Force to immediately commence a thorough investigation into the cause of the crash to prevent future occurrences. I also commend the Nigerian Air Force for activating an immediate search and rescue operation following the accident. We honour their service. We remember their sacrifice. Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation (@fkeyamo) claims that our fight for the release of Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s (@officialABAT) alleged heroin-trafficking records is a “storm in a teacup; journey to nowhere.” The world should then ask a simple question: Why then is a cabinet-level Nigerian Minister spending his time and effort rushing to respond to a small American lobbying firm? The Nigerian Presidency is acting like a narco state, using the levers of the state to protect its alleged drug-dealing President, Bola #Tinubu, whom the @FBI alleges was part of a criminal organization that smuggled heroin from Nigeria into the United States during the 1980s and 1990s. “Senior Nigerian Government Officials Rushing to Protect Their Alleged Drug-Trafficker President” is the title of our next briefing to the @realDonaldTrump Admin and Congress. We now see why the United States government views the Nigerian government as one of the most corrupt in the world. We are lobbyists and advocates. Our job is to build the case before the White House and Congress, increase U.S. public awareness, and keep members of Congress focused on the issue. President #Tinubu and his enabling ministers are too incensed to realize that they walked into a trap. We believe the Nigerian government under President #Tinubu is a narco state, and the U.S. should ask: Why are South American drug traffickers flocking to Nigeria? Update: In the @FBI filing before the court, the FBI asked the court not to allow the disclosure of highly sensitive “wiretap” recordings responsive to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@officialABAT). You read that correctly: the FBI admits that the Tinubu-responsive records contain wiretap material. Immediately afterward, the #FBI states that these wiretap-responsive records were compiled in furtherance of its investigation of multiple individuals for heroin-trafficking crimes. In our plain-English reading of the document, the FBI has Nigerian President Bola Tinubu on tape connected to heroin-trafficking crimes. Not surprisingly, the FBI goes on to specifically invoke FOIA Exemption 3 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 2510–2520, the federal law governing Title III wiretaps, to protect the identities of individuals targeted for interception and information obtained from those wiretaps. The problem with this argument is that #FOIA has limited protection for deceased persons and persons convicted of a crime. The FBI itself states on pages 19–20 of Document 100-1 that “privacy concerns are typically obviated once an individual is deceased.” We are speculating, but the only targeted person we believe is alive in that case is Nigerian President Bola #Tinubu. We truly hope that the court puts aside the FBI’s argument and orders the release of the wiretap material.
