I always wanted per-app volume control on my Mac, like on Windows. macOS doesn’t have it.
So I built it: AppVolume 🔊
A tiny menu bar app, free and open source. 🧵👇
Click the menu bar icon and you see every app that’s playing audio right now, each with its own slider.
Music down, Discord up, YouTube off. Done.
More than you’d expect:
• Per-app mute
• Boost up to 150 % (with a limiter, so no clipping)
• Slider snaps to 100 %
• Hide apps
• Shortcut ⌃⌥V
• Launch at login
Under the hood: Core Audio process taps. No virtual audio driver, no kernel extension.
The real-time part is written in C (no allocations, no locks), volume changes are smoothed so nothing pops. Switching output devices like AirPods works too.
Needs macOS 14.2+ (built on macOS 27), MIT licensed.

📱 iPhone Duo owners — does anyone else experience this?
I’ve noticed that my iPhone Duo occasionally makes a very subtle “pop” or clicking sound right at the beginning of unfolding it.
It mainly happens when I open it quickly. When I unfold it slowly, there’s no sound at all.

Frankreich kommt jetzt offenbar auf die Idee, das Internet nach verbrauchten Gigabyte zu besteuern. 😂
0,055 € pro GB sollen künftig von Inhalteanbietern abgeführt werden. Bei einem angenommenen 210 GB Download von GTA 6 wären das rechnerisch 11,55 € zusätzliche Abgaben.
Noch ist das Ganze nicht endgültig beschlossen. Aber mal ehrlich: Wir bewegen uns langsam in eine Richtung, in der wirklich alles besteuert werden soll, was sich irgendwie bewegen lässt.
Erst werden Spiele digital verkauft, dann werden Downloads zum Kostenfaktor und irgendwann ist die gute alte Disc wieder die günstigste Möglichkeit, ein Spiel zu besitzen.
Was kommt als Nächstes? Eine Steuer pro YouTube Video? 😂

✅ No noticeable resistance
✅ No physical clicking sensation
✅ No visible issues
Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be normal hinge behavior, or should I get it checked by Apple?
