You inspired us. Helped bring out our best. And at times, thoughtfully and firmly challenged us. You made this a universe we wanted to contribute to. Rest in Peace, Sir Patrick Stewart. Walter Koenig.

We join the world in mourning the passing of Sir Patrick Stewart, a legend of the stage and screen. His performance as Captain Jean Luc Picard called us all to be the best version of ourselves, and the lessons he taught from the bridge of the Enterprise still resonate today.

The last few days are the brief, @davidellison. Patrick Stewartโ€™s death did not produce a nostalgia spike. It showed that Picard still teaches people how to lead, how to listen, and how to hold a moral line without cruelty. That reach is rare. It is organic, it crosses age and politics, and it is not a campaign. People who agree on almost nothing still agree about Picard. The audience never left. The question for @Skydance @paramountplus @startrek is whether they build something worthy of that influence, or keep making shows that talk down to it.

When Picard saw Starfleet turn against its values in the mid-2380s and cut aid to Romulus, he resigned, hoping it would shock the system. When it didnโ€™t, he withdrew to his farm for 15 years. This was Stewartโ€™s story and an intentional allegorical rejection of โ€œAmerica Firstโ€.
It's sad, really. To have so much hatred in your heart, that you would rather your enemy stay silent than offer a kind word to one of your deceased. For a people who talk a lot about "empathy," they seem to treat it as a one-way street. With checkpoints.

In 1991, Patrick Stewart surprised Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry with a special birthday performance aboard the USS Enterprise-D. Dressed as Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Stewart sang his way through the alphabet, delivering playful lines of praise while dancing across the iconic Star Trek: The Next Generation bridge. Originally filmed as a private tribute during the showโ€™s fifth season, the footage wasnโ€™t intended for public viewing. Years later, it resurfaced as a bonus feature on the Season 5 DVD, giving fans a rare look at Stewartโ€™s playful personality and the castโ€™s appreciation for the man who created Star Trek.

The words and deeds of Captain Picard were inspiring, and more importantly, kept me hopeful. I wish I could make a tribute art to Patrick Stewart sooner but I was ill for the past few days. But better late than never. Thank you, Captain Picard, you will be missed.

I've watched Sir Patrick Stewart on stage and across countless TNG replays. Picard showed a lot of us how to carry responsibility, hold on to truth, and make peace with the untidy parts of being human. His voice will always feel like a future I'd like to belong to. Thank you. ๐Ÿ––
We mourn the passing of Patrick Stewart, who inspired countless individuals at NASA (and beyond) to boldly go where no one has gone before.

โ€œStar Trekโ€ star Gates McFadden pays tribute to Patrick Stewart, praising his performance as Jean-Luc Picard for giving people hope around the world: โ€œWe want to believe in our leaders. Society suffers when we do not. If we fear retribution and feel there is no choice but to live in blind obedience to those in power, we lose our way. We lose belief in our institutions. Good leaders are those who urge us to step up and demand justice and truth. They spark our imaginations with their visions of a better future. They educate us. Without a belief in the basic goodness of our leaders, we lose faith in ourselves and our collective future. Our standards and principles take a dive. A leader is also great when they understand sacrifice and responsibility. This is why, I believe, people tune into โ€˜Star Trekโ€™ or listen to Shakespeare, music or art of any kind. We are searching for hope and elevation from the daily numbness or despair. A desire to do good in the world works better with both kindness and focus โ€” and it works better when we are surrounded by art and invention that lifts us. Jean-Luc Picard embodied that ideal. Patrickโ€™s death means the loss of Picard, which for some hurts even more than the loss of Patrick Stewart. Jean-Luc gave us hope.โ€ wp.me/pc8uak-1lI3RD
