Couldn’t be more excited to be helping to bring a novel as sick as this one into the English-reading world <3
SUPERSTARS is a carnal portrait of Paris’s queer underground nightlife in the 1990s and its smoke screens of fame, fortune, fashion, sex, and drugs. Written by Ann Scott, winner of the 2023 Prix Renaudot, SUPERSTARS has been translated from the French by @_WOOLLEN_.

Kristin Thompson on this phenomenon in 2011!
Replying to @capybaroness
Classic example: "David was once talking with a distinguished literary scholar...when David said he admired many Japanese films, the scholar asked incredulously, “All those Godzilla movies?”" davidbordwell.net/blog/2011/…

The Mets have forced me to reconsider my stance that a team should only have one gimmick at a time. Coming around to the idea that actually the perfect baseball team is a tangle of fast-food mascots, roadside pumpkins, and journeyman infielders working on their music careers

Make no mistake, if Ta-Nehisi Coates lived in the West Bank or Gaza, Israel would just kill him like they did Refat Alareer.

Because @tonydokoupil showed his ass with this staggeringly racist diatribe, Coates’ message has now been viewed 26 million times.
So thank you, comrade Dokoupil, for doing more than perhaps any other mainstream American journalist to advance the Palestinian cause in America🫡🇵🇸
Ta-Nehisi Coates’ new book, “The Message,” is a trio of interconnected essays that examine how the stories people tell — or avoid telling — can shape and even distort reality: “I am most concerned always with those that don’t have a voice.” cbsn.ws/4gJxe2g

The muted response in the United States to a Jewish woman becoming the president of Mexico—a Jewish woman who is a leftist and supports Palestinian liberation—it tells you everything you need to know about the cynical weaponization of antisemitism to silence and repress the left.

Very revealing to see all the American politicians immediately tweeting out support for Israel & more war, versus how many of them have still not remarked on millions of Americans devastated by the climate disaster in Appalachia & the south

Six Israeli & US officials tell Politico that the White House encouraged Israel to invade Lebanon, that they had to be quiet about it for PR purposes (good work on that), and that this sparked opposition from within the Pentagon, State & intel agencies.

My hometown of Asheville has been underwater for days. Many nearby towns are wiped off the map.
What most folks don't know is that Asheville is where the National Climatic Data Center is located - bc it's considered to be one of the safest climate havens in the country.
