What a road trip this week. Four venues, six sessions supporting the families behind our young athletes. Wrexham AFC — The Perfect Competition and Match Day, delivered across the foundation and youth development phases Shrewsbury Town — The Early Stages of the Academy Journey, for the Foundation Phase Derbyshire Institute of Sport — Managing Disappointment; Avoiding Devastation Sunderland AFC Academy — Managing Success, Setbacks and Change, for the U15s and U16s Over 200 parents joined us in the room this week and with book sales and podcast numbers climbing every week too, it’s clear just how many families this is reaching across the sporting world. A huge thank you to every parent who gave up their evening to be there, and to the staff at each club and organisation who keep making us so welcome. And we’re not stopping. We are back on the road tomorrow for something special over the weekend: a new partnership, a new programme, and more customised Sports Performance Parenting 2.0 books heading out into the world. More on that on Monday.

It's not two separate relationships. It's one whole triangle. In this episode, Betsy Butterick explains why the coach-parent relationship and the coach-athlete relationship aren't separate skill sets. The same communication principles apply across all three points of the triangle, not just one relationship in isolation. How do you switch off the coach hat? If you coach your own child, you already know how to turn coaching mode ON as it happens automatically the second training starts. Turning it OFF is the hard part. In Two Hats, we use a simple metaphor: coaching mode is a tap. For most parent-coaches, that tap never fully closes, it's left running quietly through dinner, the car ride home, bedtime. The fix isn't complicated, but it takes practice: pick one physical cue that means 'off.' Hanging up the whistle. Walking to the car. Changing your shoes. In the early weeks, say it out loud, 'Coach hat's off now', so your child hears the switch happen. It'll feel unnatural at first and that is fine. It's a skill, not a personality trait, and it gets easier with repetition. Get your copy of Two Hats today by clicking on the link below. parentsinsport.co.uk/product…

Simple question, rarely asked: why does your child actually play their sport? Not why you think they play. Not why you'd want them to play. What they'd say, in their own words, if you asked them directly tonight. Sports Performance Parenting 2.0 walks through the range of real answers kids give — to have fun, to make friends, to challenge themselves, to relieve stress, sometimes just to be like someone they admire. Understanding their actual motivation (not the one we assume) changes how you support them, especially during the tough patches when their interest starts to waver. We'd love to know — did you ask, and did the answer surprise you? Sports Performance Parenting 2.0 — GET YOUR COPY TODAY parentsinsport.co.uk/product…

LATEST NEWS - 'National Top Talent Event' Always a real privilege to visit St George's Park and today was no different to deliver two sessions for the England Women's Talent Pathway Event. For the new parents we looked at an introductory session around we can support our girls around their behaviours, supporting the positive use of comparisons, managing potential and looking at our role as role models and how we navigate certain aspects of life including the car journey to and from competition. The second session was for returning parents and it was the first time this had been seen in public as we explored managing success, setbacks and change - what that means for our girl's and what it means for how we can best support. Over 150 families engaged across the sessions and it was great to meet with parents who previously we had only had online interactions with. Looking forward to what is still to come.....
