boundaries are really important to express, often expressing that you are hurt is part of expressing the boundary. ‘this hurt, it will be a dealbreaker if it happens too often’. unfortunately, too many people treat the setting of boundaries as a hostile act

I think one consequence of how much we've popularized the language of boundaries and emotional safety is that ppl are becoming less comfortable with the fact that perfectly legitimate decisions can still hurt other people.

Esp bc forgiveness also functions as a way of restoring the social standing of the offender w/o requiring restitution. Once the victim refuses to forgive, they become the obstacle to reconciliation, & the community can treat their continued pain as disrupting social order

Society’s obsession with forgiveness is one of the biggest contributors to abuse of all forms. Somehow the victim is gaslit into forgiving someone who wronged them but the same energy is never had for the actual abuser/perpetrator.
