I have a new article out in this issue. I am as proud of it as I am of any of my public writing, and hope you read it. In contrast to many histories that position neuroscience as coming out of cybernetics, I show how neurophysiologists rejected key cybernetic tropes and claims.

Cornel West: Now Brother Barney is purple AND green. And even Brother Barney knows class struggle is not a struggle BETWEEN classes, but rather a struggle to eliminate class altogether.
Norm Finklestein: I’m sorry. I’m sorry. You would call this reptilian imbecile your brother?
Good piece

If there's one thing women love it's when you show them "one of the most famous comedy routines of all time" and interrogate them on whether or not they understand why it's funny

digger is starship troopers for shitlibs instead of endless war against the bugs ur endlessly putting on braindead hamiltonesque plays making orange-man-bad type points. and then u walk out of the theatre and past the men with guns who are not at all threatened by ur art. forever
My read of you can see everything is that the final two scenes are fielder saying 1) she got me 2) she got me the same way she got anyone else— by weaponizing her vulnerability

“Let me die,” American photojournalist Heidi Levine repeats to journalists Jasper Nathaniel as they try to outrun masked Israeli settlers who attacked her on Friday while she covered the olive harvest in the West Bank village of Abu Falah, near Ramallah.
Around 80 settlers attacked Palestinian olive harvesters in the village, AP reported. The Palestinian Red Crescent said it treated six people injured in two attacks in Abu Falah.
Levine, a freelancer for the Washington Post, told the Committee to Protect Journalists that the settlers knocked her down and kicked her for at least 10 minutes, even after she identified herself as an American journalist. They stole her camera, phone and bag. She was eventually taken to a hospital in Ramallah.
"The IDF provided cover, with tear gas and machine guns, while the settlers beat" Levine "nearly to death," Nathaniel wrote, adding that soldiers then shot a Palestinian bystander and aimed their guns at and shoved paramedics trying to treat him. AP photos and circulating videos show Israeli soldiers standing over a wounded Palestinian man after they shot him.
Andrey X, an activist also at the scene, said a Palestinian man "saved our lives from the settler-terrorists who attacked the olive harvesters and journalists” armed only with a slingshot.
I hope this paper contributes to a more careful consideration of the legacy of cybernetics, particularly in the brain sciences.
Bonus points if you were at @ranjodhd's 4s panel and were wondering "what might a historiography that decenters cybernetics look like?"
