Editors and directors sometimes tried to expand on the form, and I wasn't sure at the time if this scene would inspire new directions, but ultimately it did not. There were a few slo mo shots in episodes preceding, but this technique turned out to be a stand-alone.

LOVED this article. Surprised that nobody remembers and that it was not seriously debated. I created this slow mo sequence w/director Rob Bailey after Ziggy kills Glekas in S2. This was unprecedented on The Wire. We discussed and David felt it worked for the moment. (1/2)

I was also thinking of Kirsten Dunst's character, who ceases to be a bystander and takes action. Earlier montage images in the film made me think of real life photojournalist Kevin Carter, and the trauma and ethics of being a witness.

Waited till I finally saw the film in a theater to read this spectacular review: articulating the various strands, narrative strategies, sorting out what I'm feeling and thinking and why. The last sentence: whose self-actualization? I can think of three people.
