Phrases Nigerians say that would get us CANCELLED in a sane society.
Honestly some of you need to hear yourselves speak. A THREAD 🧵
“That's just how Nigerians behave.”
Ahhh yes the national excuse for things we should absolutely know better than to do.
“Why is she talking about feminism? Does she hate men?”
Apparently if you’re a feminist you automatically hate men 👍
“You’re doing too much for a girl.”
Imagine being ambitious and somebody interpreting it as a public disturbance.
“Don't talk about your family problems outside. It brings shame.”
The abuse can continue, but please protect the family brand.
“If you can afford to go out, you can afford to help your family.”
Umm excuse me, talk about lack of financial boundaries.
“If you can afford an iPhone, you can afford to give me money.”
When did my phone become a financial statement? Should I submit my bank alert too?
“At least he doesn’t beat you.”
The bar for a good husband is apparently somewhere beneath the ground.
“You’re too choosy. That’s why you’re still single.”
What exactly is the metrics behind this?
“We suffered to get here, so you too must suffer.”
Generational trauma but make it a family tradition.
“You’re too sensitive.”
You insulted me in three different languages, but somehow my reaction is the problem.

I feel bad for anyone that didn’t get to experience this when it came out
