Coming back to twitter to say I got a sword (and a PhD)! Many thanks to @LiddelowSA for his mentorship over the years, and to the Liddelow lab (past and present) for creating a fun environment to do science.
Replying to @_rdkim
@_rdkim smashed her thesis defense today
Thanks to @westboundsigned for being a most excellent external reader
And after years of dropping (weekly) hints, she got her sword - a 4ft broadsword
Congratulations Dr Kim!
The every growing lab was both proud & celebrating at scale!

Excited to share that I just started my lab at @EdinburghUni on a @wellcometrust Career Development Award! Reach out if you’re interested in working on astrocyte subtypes & the glia limitans – we’re hiring!

Excited to share our new preprint with you where we describe the molecular and morphological identity of glia limitans superficialis astrocytes (paper here: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… - image by the amazing @MelCooperPhD).

Check out our new preprint on the Alzheimer's GWAS gene Inpp5d! We created extensive spatial transcriptomics to study plaque-associated gene expression and how this is modulated by Inpp5d: biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Whatever you think of the Sabatini case, it’s bad that @nyulangone / @NYULHresponds seem to be hiring him not in spite of his having been dismissed by Whitehead/HHMI but because of it.

Exciting work out of the lab in @NeuroCellPress today. Big congratulations to @michaelrodea, @JessSadick, and other members of the lab who contributed.
Lots of data for mining on our updated sequencing portal: gliaseq.com
As always - more to come!

2 more images I'm fond of - astrocytes (green) and neurons (red) in mouse cortex (left), and cthulhu (right, named by @maybeunoriginal)
Super thankful for peers and mentors (looking at you @LiddelowSA) who've been supporting trainees during these confusing times and pushing for the well-being of not only us but also the community!
This. Institutions that believe an "if you feel sick, stay home" statement will be sufficient in keeping its employees safe, they are as complicit in practicing bad public health policies as the people who were crowding in bars this past weekend. Shut it all down.

After rumors of reactive astrocyte presentations at #SfN19 the LiddelowLab went hunting.
@IVLRose, @HaselPhilip, @JessSadick, @_rdkim, Alice Kwon (had to run to the airport, so poorly phone edited in!)
Looking forward to a full suite of lab presentations in DC in 2020!
Dedicating this first-ever tweet to let y'all know that your favorite ~superstate~ is officially an #nsfgrfp fellow! Who would've thought this first-gen, low-income student could even get to grad school or win this kind of award?
