Heerlijke dag in Israël doet goed. (Plus het feit dat de regering niet meer 61 zetels gaat hebben)

Zeer goede overschouwing….
Last night, the exit polls told one story: Netanyahu had lost, but it wasn’t clear who on the other side had won. This morning, the results are telling another. Netanyahu hasn’t won yet, but the change bloc has clearly lost. I’ve covered politics since the start of the century. I have never seen a camp organize for an election as impeccably, as efficiently and as energetically as the change bloc did. It signed model surplus-vote agreements, so that no leftover votes would go to waste, and ran an unprecedented operation flying Israelis home from abroad to vote. And by the actual count, it ended up with more or less the same number of seats as in the last election. Demography beat energy, and the message also proved flawed and unsuccessful. The public wasn’t convinced that the war had been a total victory, as Netanyahu claimed, but it also refused to buy the opposition’s claim that it was a total failure. It was repelled by Haredi draft-dodging, but didn’t think the solution was a minority government propped up by draft refusers and anti-Zionists. It was disgusted when ultra-Orthodox protesters chanted “We do not believe in the rule of the Zionists,” but it was just as shocked when “Biladi, Biladi,” the Palestinian national anthem, was sung at the Joint List’s headquarters last night. Netanyahu’s position changed completely between the release of the exit polls and the arrival of the real results. Last night it seemed clear that Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, a Likud loyalist, would be ousted and that, one way or another, Gadi Eisenkot, the former IDF chief of staff, would form a minority government. Now, by the criteria Eisenkot himself set, he has lost the legitimacy to form such a government. He promised he wouldn’t rely on the Arab parties’ votes, yet without a majority he would now need the active support of the Joint List, which looks futile and pointless. In post-October 7 Israel, there is no chance that a coalition including six candidates who lost immediate family to Hamas could last long alongside Joint List lawmakers who claim Hamas is simply a charitable organization. After the 1967 war, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan famously said Israel was waiting for the Arabs to call. In the same spirit, Netanyahu in effect told the change camp before dawn: here’s my phone number, feel free to use it. Yisrael Beiteinu’s Avigdor Lieberman, former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and Eisenkot now face a dilemma from hell. They can go to another election, one that Israelis abroad will no longer fly home for. They can try to join Netanyahu’s bloc on tough terms, breaking their campaign pledges never to sit with him. Or they can beg the Islamist Ra’am and the Joint List, now drunk on their success, for support. And one final note: for the entire campaign, we searched for a third bloc, a centrist unity bloc between Netanyahu and his rivals. Candidates included Benny Gantz and former UN Ambassador Gilad Erdan, former general Ofer Winter and economist Yaron Zelekha, former Culture Minister Hili Tropper and who even remembers who else. They all collapsed, evaporated or vanished. And now it turns out the unity bloc may have been the Arab parties all along. Their historic, almost hysterical turnout, at rates that will need careful examination, shattered both sides’ dreams of a 61-seat majority. It reminded Jews on both sides that, after years of division, they may have to learn to sit together after all. newsletter.amitsegal.net/p/i…

Het tijdsverschil met Engeland lijkt erg groot…
Israeli Exit Polls show Netanyahu's been defeated. Israel has rejected his dark vision, forever war & cruel, dystopic, authoritarian policies. But to succeed, the anti Netanyahu block needs to work with the Israeli Arab parties. I dearly hope this great chance isn't wasted
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Exit polls showed neither Netanyahu's bloc nor the opposition reaching the 61 seats needed for a majority, resulting in a deadlock rather than a clear defeat. timesofisrael.com/exit-polls-sho… timesofisrael.com/eisenkot-and-n… afp.com/en/israel-oppo… theguardian.com/world/live/202…

Fine. I’ll bite! The only reason I’m writing this is because so many people reached out to me and told me they are confused about who to vote for, and wanted my input. So here it is. To the surprise of many, I am not voting for Netanyahu. I’ll be honest, I was on the fence, but my vote is going to Smotrich/Feiglin. Before I continue, hard rule, if anyone makes a discriminatory or nasty comment in reply to this, they will immediately be blocked. Now, I have spent time with many people on both sides of the political spectrum, and I have asked them all hard questions. Bennett is a good friend, a personal friend, but I believe his politics, whatever they really are, are terrible. My vote is going to someone who I believe has values, and sticks to those values even when unpopular. While I believe that Netanyahu is a generational talent and a world-class diplomat, it’s true that he was prime minister on that horrible day, and it’s true that he’s been prime minister for what is, in my opinion, way too long. I realize that my vote will only strengthen him, and I am OK with that, because again, I don’t think there’s anyone who even comes close to his level of talent and intelligence. But my vote is going to someone else. To me, I am voting for someone whose values and morals are mostly aligned with mine. And since I believe this land is ours, every inch of it, and since I believe there should never be an enemy state on our borders, my vote is going to Smuthrich and Feiglin. Like I said, I have spoken to both of them at length, and both have things that I disagree with, multiple things, but at the end of the day, these are the candidates who speak to me most. I am not here to convince anyone, and again, if this offends you, you are more than welcome to unfollow. No hard feelings. And I need to address one more thing. Because of the media, the words “Ben Gvir and Smotrich” have become a household name. They are often grouped together, and that’s fine, but the reality is they could not be more different. While I do support the death penalty for terrorists and some other things that Ben Gvir stands for, I do not believe he is a good politician, and I do believe that he has caused damage to the image of the state of Israel, not because of his opinions, but because of the way he expresses them. Smotrich, on the other hand, and again, this is just my opinion, and I’m not looking to convince anyone, Smotrich is a man of values and the last thing that he wants to do is offend anyone. I know that’s hard to believe, but please understand that the media, both locally in Israel and globally, as well as politicians across the world, have spent countless hours trying to vilify Smotrich. Believe it or not, he is not the devil. Nor is he racist or an extremist, at least, according to my definitions. Is he perfect? Absolutely not. Is any politician anywhere in the world perfect? Absolutely not. So that’s it, that is who I’m voting for, and you are more than welcome to ignore this, research my opinion, or vote for someone else, that is your prerogative. I rarely, if ever, endorse a political candidate, but I believe these elections are so important, that I am making an exception. Both Smotrich and Feiglin are, in my opinion, men of values and morals, and for that, they are getting my vote. Before you dismiss this, tell me please, putting aside media, what opinions of theirs do you disagree with? I’d like actual policies, not things either one of them have said or have been accused of saying in the media. And one more thing, I am not voting for them because they are not someone else. And that’s all I’ll say on that topic. Good luck to us all.

Red-Green Alliance in full effect in France. Internationally funded violent protests of radical leftists/marxists and Islamists/political Islam movements working together. Wake up call?
France is in chaos again. City Hall in Marseille has been stormed as rioters chant “we're going to take the Bastille” Still think this is over “school conditions”? It’s a third-world insurrection by an ideology that wants to conquer and destroy.

After Oct. 7, Israel made clear its war objectives in Gaza: Destroy Hamas’s military capabilities, bring back our hostages, ensure Gaza no longer poses a threat to Israel and end Hamas rule. That final objective will be achieved, the easy way or the hard way.
