“I called 911 thinking I was saving my marriage. By the time the police arrived, I was begging them to let me explain.” It started with a notification on my husband’s phone. We were having dinner when a message popped up from a woman whose name I didn’t recognize. “Last night was amazing. When can I see you again?” My husband snatched the phone off the table so quickly that I knew something was wrong. “Who is she?” I asked. “Nobody. It’s a work thing.” I asked him to show me the conversation. He refused. When I reached for the phone, he stood up and told me not to touch his things. Then he said something I’ll never forget. “Maybe if you spent less time monitoring me and more time being a wife, I wouldn’t need to look elsewhere.” I felt something break inside me. We argued louder and louder until he grabbed his car keys and headed for the door. I followed him, demanding an answer. He turned around, pointed a finger at me, and shouted, “Touch me again, and you’ll regret it!” I froze. Our 12-year-old daughter was standing halfway down the stairs, crying.
