“We want solutions. We don’t want to hear that they don’t have collateral. We don’t want to hear that they’re not bankable", @MonaMuguma, Executive Director, @aBi_Finance while speaking at #FAFC2026. She challenged the fintech sector to design for the people still left out focusing on smallholder farmers, women, youth, refugees and underserved regions. "How do we take finance to the last mile in a way that works for both providers and beneficiaries", she inquired. She called on Fintechs to be ambitious, innovative and move away from the "business as usual" notion. 🎤 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: Mona Muguma Ssebuliba @MonaMuguma, Chief Executive Officer of @aBi_Finance, works at the intersection of finance, agriculture and inclusion. Under her leadership, @aBi_Finance has focused on expanding access to finance for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses, while strengthening the financial institutions that serve them. More recently, @aBi_Finance has been pushing further into green finance and climate-resilient agricultural lending. Mona has also highlighted the importance of partnerships and blended finance in making agricultural lending more viable and reaching businesses and farmers who may otherwise struggle to access capital. At #FAFC2026, she brings an important question to the fintech conversation: How do we make innovation translate into real economic opportunity? 🌱 What would you ask Mona about inclusive finance, agricultural finance or unlocking capital for businesses? At #FAFC2026, @Nowomugisha , Head of Impact & Sustainability at @aBi_Finance, highlighted a major opportunity: agriculture contributes 24% of Uganda’s GDP and employs 65–70% of the labour force, yet receives only 12% of private-sector credit. "The challenge isn't simply lack of money. It is risk, cost, fragmented information, product fit and climate risk", he noted. Fintechs can bring the data, digital payments, low-cost distribution and alternative credit assessment needed to address these barriers. @aBi_Finance brings capital, risk-sharing and technical assistance through lines of credit, guarantees and capacity building. The opportunity is across the entire agricultural value chain, from inputs and production to aggregation, processing, transport, markets and exports. Following the @aBi_Finance pitch at #FAFC2026, the conversation turned to a question that matters for the future of agricultural finance: 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦? The panel brought together perspectives from across the ecosystem; 𝐍𝐞𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐚𝐦𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐞, Senior Product Development and Innovation Manager, @mtnmomoug observed that farmers cannot be assessed on mobile-wallet data alone. Fintechs need better information on production, income sources and the communities farmers operate in, while products must reflect agricultural cycles and promote responsible borrowing. @otimgerald, CEO,@ensibuuko, argued that digital agricultural lending should go beyond simply sending cash. Financing can be tied directly to farmers’ needs from inputs and bicycles to devices and farming equipment while VSLAs and SACCOs can provide trusted channels for distribution and repayment. For Musa Kisiriko, Deputy CEO, @gnugridcrb, the opportunity is fundamentally about data. Alternative data from transactions, VSLAs, production and other digital activity can help make farmers and agricultural businesses visible, assessable and financeable. The panel also highlighted the role of guarantees, blended finance and lines of credit in helping fintechs and financial institutions take calculated risks and reach customers who have never had formal credit. The takeaway was clear: agricultural finance needs better data, fit-for-purpose products, responsible lending and stronger partnerships across the ecosystem. The goal isn't simply to lend more. It is to finance agriculture better. #FAFC2026 #FITSPA #FintechConference #DigitalTransformation #InclusiveGrowth #Innovation #AfricaTech

𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻-𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗱 agri-𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗨𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮 aBi Finance and ASA Microfinance Uganda have launched a UGX 2 billion+ project to expand access to green and inclusive finance for women farmers and women-owned agribusinesses in Northern and Eastern Uganda. The #SPROUT project combines green finance and financial literacy training with stronger financial products, digital services, branch networks and staff capacity. Together, these interventions will make it easier for women farmers and women-owned agribusinesses to access finance that enables them to invest, grow their businesses and respond to climate-related risks. Over two years, the partnership will facilitate more than 10,000 green loans, representing approximately UGX 10 billion in green financing, while helping women-owned businesses build the capacity to grow and graduate to larger financing as their needs evolve. Highlighting the significance of #SPROUT, aBi Finance CEO @MonaMuguma said, “𝘐𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦, 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦-𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳.” This project builds on a five-year partnership between aBi Finance and ASA Microfinance Uganda, which has enabled more than 146,000 women farmers and women-owned agribusinesses to access finance. We thank the @DKinUganda, Impact Fund Denmark and the @EUinUG for their continued support in making initiatives such as #SPROUT possible, and ASA Microfinance Uganda for the partnership.

Agriculture employs nearly 70% of Uganda's workforce, yet the sector receives only about 12% of private sector financing. Bridging this gap requires more than increased capital; it calls for coordinated action among government, regulators, financial institutions, development partners, farmer organisations, research institutions, and the private sector. In this article for @newvisionwire, our CEO, @MonaMuguma, reflects on why collaboration is essential to building a more inclusive and sustainable agricultural finance system. 📖 Read the full article 👇 #AgriculturalFinance #GreenFinance #InclusiveFinance #ClimateFinance #SustainableFinance #Agribusiness

Catalysing green investment for Uganda’s smallholder farmers and agribusinesses. Climate change is reshaping agriculture, making it more important than ever for farmers and agribusinesses to invest in climate-smart solutions that build resilience while protecting the environment. At aBi Finance, we partner with financial institutions to increase access to green finance. Last year, 23% of our portfolio supported green investments, enabling more smallholder farmers and agribusinesses to access the finance they need to adopt sustainable practices. But sustainable transformation requires more than capital. That is why we also strengthen the systems that make green finance work. Through our Financial Services Development and Business Development Services, we work with financial institutions, and sector actors develop the knowledge, products, partnerships and capacity needed to sustainably finance Uganda's agribusiness sector. By combining finance with technical support and ecosystem development, we are are contributing to building a stronger financial ecosystem that can continue delivering green and inclusive finance long into the future. Our Head of Impact & Sustainability, @Nowomugisha, highlighted why sustainability is becoming central to the future of agricultural finance. Key reflections: ➡️ Strong ESG practices strengthen portfolio quality through improved risk management and greater resilience to climate and operational shocks. ➡️ Financing solutions must reflect the realities faced by farmers, agribusinesses, and rural communities. ➡️ Building sustainable financial systems requires collaboration. ➡️ With the majority of climate financing expected to come from the private sector, blended finance is critical in mobilising capital at the scale needed for climate-resilient and inclusive agricultural growth. At aBi Finance, we continue to work with financial institutions to embed sustainability into investment and lending decisions. #Sustainability #ESG #AgricultureFinance #ClimateAdaptation #BlendedFinance #FinancialInclusion #ImpactInvesting
