❌ Local gym keep your name and phone number ✅ Giant companies train AI on all your personal data Did I get it right? What's the point of GDPR again?
‼️ EU governments approved a GDPR change to let companies train AI on Europeans' personal data without consent. It makes AI training a possible "legitimate interest", judged case by case. Parliament must still agree. Max Schrems calls it a "digital expropriation" of Europeans.

I guess I'm one of the few people dumb enough to run a 64 core CPU under Windows, because there's a bug open since 2020 where the Windows scheduler reports that it gave all the cores you asked for to WSL2, but silently caps it to 32. I opened a new ticket as a public service bc their bot keeps closing reports as stale even though it's still unfixed. github.com/microsoft/WSL/iss…

The number of times I've clicked Restart Now thinking updates were finished while updates were still installing... I don't understand why we can't grey that option out while updates are in progress. Why is it like this? :(

Are you kidding me @Microsoft? You raise the price, then take away features, not to mention I need 2 family plans for my 1 family. You have record high profits, but that's not enough, you see how else you can squeeze the average family for even more. #NotCool #Disapointed

If you vibe it and release it, at some point you will be asked to maintain it. You should bloody well understand it.

Smidge 5 is out, first release in about a year - sorry 'bout that 😅: github.com/Shazwazza/Smidge/… NUglify's now the only minifier, it's on .NET 10 with minimal APIs, and I finally fixed a concurrency bug that was silently corrupting bundle file lists under load.

Battery Flyout is one of the most advanced apps for monitoring and managing your device's power usage. Designed specifically for Windows 11, it lets you switch power modes, gives you a modern and detailed report on your device, battery, and per-app energy usage, and much more. The app is only around 50 MB and is built entirely with the latest native Windows technologies. No web frameworks, no ads, no unnecessary bloat 💪

Windows 11's built-in Weather app should not be using over 1GB of RAM just to show me whether it will rain. I opened Weather during heavy rain because my phone was charging. The forecast itself was good: radar, hourly precipitation, wind, AQI, moon phase, severe alerts, the works. But Task Manager showed the app climbing past 1.2GB RAM without me doing anything serious. Then I expanded the process tree, and the reason became obvious. Weather is not really a native Windows app. It is MSN Weather running as a WebView2/Chromium wrapper with multiple browser-like processes under it. And yes, it also shows ads. A default Weather app on a paid operating system should not feel like an MSN page wearing a forecast icon. Apple’s Weather app on macOS gives detailed weather data without ads and used about 247MB of RAM in my comparison. Windows Weather used nearly five times that. I hope Microsoft's leadership does something about the inbox apps. BRING BACK NATIVE APPS

‼️ UPDATE: LG Electronics says it will suspend smart TV apps that secretly turn hundreds of millions of TVs into residential proxy nodes, after researchers found the proxy SDKs in more than 42% of apps in LG's webOS store and over a quarter of Samsung's Tizen apps, routing unknown third parties' internet traffic through users' home connections. Residential proxy firms pay developers to bundle these SDKs, then rent the resulting home IP addresses to customers who often use them for large-scale scraping aka stealing your shit (also for AI training). Proxy nodes are being embedded at scale in hardware people don't treat as computers and can't easily inspect, and LG's cleanup does nothing for Samsung's Tizen store, where the same problem is present.
❗️🚨 An Israeli company has backdoored hundreds of millions of households through countless Smart TV apps, and they're quietly turning Samsung and LG TVs into exit nodes for AI web-scraping. Your TV is relaying strangers' web traffic from your home IP, your bandwidth, your address attached to whatever those scraping jobs touch. Roku, Fire TV and Google TV banned the practice. Samsung and LG didn't. The culprit is Bright Data's proxy SDK, which rides inside Tizen and webOS apps, 200+ on webOS alone. Datacenter IPs get blocked, home IPs don't. Include Security reverse-engineered the SDK and found its relay protocol has no message signing, authentication, or device attestation. Their words: less secure than typical malware command-and-control. To make things worse, they found that in iOS the relay tunnel binds straight to the physical network interface, so it routes around any VPN the user is running. Bright Data's config also ships per-country tiers. Devices in Uzbekistan and Oman are cleared to relay down to 1% battery, with data caps up to 60x the worldwide default. Before the BaCkDoOrEd replies land: technically you agreed. In practice you were enrolled into a global proxy network you were never given the information to refuse. And these exit nodes drag down your IP's reputation, potentially leaving you with blocks from providers.
