This is Pakistan where ministers tell opposition party that in future you will not get money or party nomination tickets. We are probably the only nation on this earth that has installed corruption in every institution and are proud to discuss it openly; including in parliament as well.

Hajra Niazi, daughter of Noreen Niazi, was made to wait at the hospital until 3 am last night, yet she was not allowed to see her mother. Today, she is still being denied access, with no medical reports, no update on her mother’s health and no information shared with the family. The entire area has been cordoned off by the police as if a high-profile terrorist were being treated at the hospital. What could be more painful for a daughter than being kept away from her own mother, not knowing how she is doing? This is deeply inhumane and utterly shameful for the Punjab Government and Lahore Police. Whatever the circumstances, a daughter has the basic right to see her mother and know about her health

Half of Sindh’s under 5 kids are stunted. 82% of kids aged 7 to 14 cant read a grade 2 story. Only 3.7% could pass a basic maths test. 46% of kids 5 to 16 arent in school Less than half even finish primary Compared to their own 2014 round almost everything got worse. Severe stunting went from 24 to 30%, young women who can read down from 52 to 48, primary attendance down from 45 to 40 In 2017 PPP gov launched a plan to bring stunting down to 15% by 2026. Local govts get about 5% of provincial revenue. Districts cant fix this even if they wanted to, everything goes through CM House. PPP and these ethnonationalists get riled up when u bring these catastrophic failures to light, they only want to talk about who built Dow before partition or "Sindh ki Wehdat", nothing on actual issues
What we have already decided We speak of the future as if it were open. This map suggests otherwise. The children on it were under five when they were measured. In the 2040s they will run our farms, offices and factories; in the 2060s they will be the parents and taxpayers on whom an ageing country leans. Two in five of them are stunted. Whatever we choose to do now, for them this part of the future has already been decided, before they could choose anything. A child’s height at two is a kind of ledger. It records, with no possibility of appeal, whether her mother ate, whether the water was clean, whether someone helped when she had diarrhoea, whether anyone thought she mattered enough to reach. The ledger in Gujrat reads one way. In Thatta it reads another. In Haripur and Kohistan, a hundred and fifty kilometres apart, the same province records two different countries. We like to believe this is history, or geography, or poverty, things that happen to us. But the greenest districts were never the richest land. They were the places where girls went to school, where men found work beyond the village, where the state and the market arrived. The map is not a record of what nature gave us. It is a record of whom we chose to reach. We are a society that discounts the future heavily. We defer, we borrow, we promise. But children cannot be deferred. The first thousand days do not wait for a better budget year. Somewhere in Jamshoro a girl stunted in 2018 will be a mother by 2045. What we failed to give her, she will not be able to give her child. The question this map asks is not about them. It is about us.

🚨🚨#BREAKING: In a big move , former senior puisne judge #Islamabad high court, after posting currently serving in #Lahore high court #JusticeMohsinAkhtarKayani resigns, citing reason he said “in my considered view, the changes introduced through the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Constitutional Amendments have compromised the independence and institutional integrity of the High Courts. I have witnessed what I regard as the executive's growing control over judicial institutions, extending to the appointment and transfer of judges. Such interference has, in my assessment, seriously eroded public confidence in judicial independence and the fairness of the judicial process. Of particular concern is the plight of the ordinary litigant, who is the principal stakcholder in the justice system, yet whose suffering continues to deepen. The needs of those seeking justice have too often been neglected, while other actors have become the beneficiaries of a system intended to serve them. In these circumstances, my conscience does not permit me to continue on the Bench. This is a painful decision, but it reflects my conviction that judicial office must remain inseparable from independence, fidelity to the Constitution, and the protection of human dignity.”

Anyone who celebrates, glorifies or justifies extrajudicial killings in the guise of police encounters is himself endorsing criminality and demonstrating utter contempt for the rule of law. He is no less a violator of the law than those who perpetrate such acts

So, in Pakistan, if an economically privileged man k1lls a 15 year old orphan, there are NO preventive measures in place, no legal process, no courts to deliver justice to the child but you've got to rely on the CCD to k1ll the perpetrator extrajudicially. What a lawless mess

Horrifying scenes from Bara. Firing upon protestors demanding restoration of democracy is a grave crime against our people. Rulers are ripping apart our society to prolong their illegitimate and unpopular govt. May we get rid of them before they cause more damage to Pakistan.

Selection of the nominee on Monitoring committee is highly offensive and dangerous. fake Govt couldn’t even find one member from KPK. Selection of members from Punjab only shows how shortsightedness. Dangerous…..

A heartfelt message by a parent, K Sharad Haksar to Neha Bora. “When I got married, I knew I wanted only one child. And in my heart, I hoped it would be a girl. I was blessed with a daughter. The first time I held her, I made her a silent promise. You will never have to share my time. You will never have to wait for my attention. Whatever I have, you will get all of it. I had seen families with four or five children. Parents running from morning to night, and still some child was always left waiting. I also felt our country has too many people, and nature is paying for it. One child felt right. It felt responsible. For years, I never questioned it. Then this year, I saw Neha Bora. She is 29, a PhD student at JNU, a theatre artist from Khatima, a small town in the hills of Uttarakhand. When the NEET paper leak happened, she sat down at Jantar Mantar for students she did not even know. Children who had studied for years. Parents who had spent their savings on coaching and still lost. She did not eat for 23 days. She was 66 kilos when she started. She lost more than 7. Near the end, doctors were taking her blood three or four times a day. The night I read that, I could not sleep. I kept seeing my own daughter in her place. On a hot Delhi road. Thin. Tired. A doctor holding her wrist again. And I knew I would not be able to stand there and watch. I would have begged her to stop. But Neha did not stop until the work was done. And when it was over, she said her body had forgotten how to eat. It had to learn again, like a baby. Even then, still weak, she went to Bihar to meet more than 600 students who had been arrested. She did not go home to rest. She went to the ones who had stood by her. I am a dowser. Every day I work with energy. I have learned that anger is heavy. It burns out fast. Nobody can live on anger for 23 days without food. Only love can carry you that far. Then I read that her father was in the Army, and the family kept moving from one posting to the next. My wife's father was also in the Army. I never call him my father-in-law. To me, he is simply Papa. My wife studied in 13 schools. Thirteen first days. Thirteen times walking into a class where nobody knew her name. Thirteen goodbyes to friends she never saw again. Army children learn to smile, pack their bags and start again. Nobody asks them how much it hurts. I see that strength in my wife every day. I saw it in Neha too. In Ranchi, a man threw ink on her face and called her anti-national. She said she had already faced pellets and lathis in Delhi. Ink would not scare her. Ink washes off. In energy work, we say that what people throw at you only stays if you take it in. She seems to know this without ever holding a pendulum. Her family did not agree with her. There were fights at home. But during the hunger strike, her mother came to Jantar Mantar. I don't know what they said to each other. I don't need to. I am a parent. I know what a mother feels when she sees her child weak and thin on a road, and still standing. Every argument is forgotten in that moment. All that is left is: this is my child. Neha said she has not spoken to her father yet. I don't know him. But I am a father too, and I know how hard it is for men like us to say some things out loud. So if he cannot say it yet, let me say it for him, from Chennai. Beta, we are proud of you. Now go and eat something properly. Somewhere in all this, a thought came to me that I never expected. I wish I had one more daughter. One like Neha. This takes nothing away from my own daughter. She is my world. She always will be. But Neha made me ask myself a hard question. We spend our whole lives keeping our children safe and helping them get ahead. Do we ever teach them to look back at who is being left behind? And if one day they stand up for someone else, will we stand next to them as Neha's mother did? Or will we ask them to come home and stay quiet. Our job is to protect that light, even when it scares us.

Upon instructions from friends and family, I have submitted an urgent complaint to the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention (@UN_SPExperts) copied to the Special Rapporteurs on Freedom of Expression, Belief, and Association concerning the detention of @ImranKhanPTI 's sister Mrs Aleema Khan (@Aleema_KhanPK) On 20 September 2026, Mrs Khan was seized from near her house in Lahore and the authorities, after first refusing to acknowledge that they had detained her, have now stated that she is being held under the draconian Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, which allows the authorities to order the detention of individuals without court approval. It is clear that Mrs Aleema Khan has been targeted because of her support for her brother (@ImranKhanPTI) and because of her advocacy for democracy in Pakistan and we have submitted that her detention is unlawful and arbitrary, as it is without a proper legal basis and has taken place because of her exercise of her rights to freedom of expression, belief, and assembly, and in an attempt to dampen support for the legitimate public protest in support of Imran Khan planned for 27 September 2026. After speaking up for Aleema following her seizure, her two sisters have now also been detained. We ask you all to raise the case of Aleema Khan and her sisters wherever you are and for the international community to act for democracy in Pakistan. @KhanShershah @MrsSFaisall @PTIofficial @PTIOfficialISB @PTIPunjabPK @SkyYaldaHakim #ArbitraryDetention #Persecution #InternationalLaw #FreeAleemaKhan

🚨🚨A must read powerful piece by @AsadRahim 🚨🚨 Hadi Chattha is an attack on the bar. There is no other way of framing this. Two lawyers are being persecuted again and again, to stop them from representing victims of state abuse. To stop them from raising their voices for the most vulnerable. To stop them, most important, from presenting young Pakistanis with an alternative vision: that amid a sea of cushion-warmers, there is still something to be gained from the will to act. That if the young are brave enough, they can still remake the world they find. Because seventeen years for tweeting was a travesty. Perhaps the word ‘travesty’ itself was invented for such a sentence. In a place where killers walk free in a day via coerced compromises, and where 14 years is thought good enough for even the most wretched on death row, two human rights fighters posed the most serious threat to society, and – as recent, sinister developments attest – continue to do so. But if nothing is true, everything is permitted: in appeals before the Dogar Court in Islamabad, little came of anything. Watching the grim tableau play out before him, the Supreme Court’s Justice Naeem Akhter Afghan said “it was better not to seek our opinion on the Islamabad High Court’s system” and to let said system be fully exposed. It would be hard to overstate his words: moments after Faisal Siddiqi’s valorous defence saw Justice Afghan suspend Imaan and Hadi’s sentences, they were rearrested. Yes, rearrested. Or so we think: Imaan’s mother Shireen Mazari is still unaware where the two were taken last night after the anti-terrorism court; whether they were in Adiala, or whether they ‘have been abducted to some other place’. While hearing Imaan and Hadi’s case, Justice Afghan said, “The case may disappear from the system, but we will not.” As of today, the liberty of Pakistan’s two most devoted rights fighters is the central tenet of the Supreme Court’s relevance: it must correct this glaring injustice, and every man and woman from every bar in the country must do whatever all is possible in securing Imaan and Hadi’s release. If two lawyers can fight for the lost and left behind so hard, it would be shameful that the rest of us choose to look away. dawn.com/news/2031078
