POTUS was just asked how waiving sanctions on Russia is not giving something in return to Russia over the released hostage. POTUS answer: “are you a stupid person?”
"History will certainly record how American negotiators, who had the opportunity to save a huge number of people, refused to raise uncomfortable questions before "humanist Putin."
I have read dozens of outraged posts because the US special envoy Witkoff called Putin a "humanist." But no one is writing about the fact that the American negotiators are simply not doing their job. Let me explain.
Peace negotiations are important in their own right. Even if they do not lead to a lasting peace, the process itself is an opportunity to resolve urgent humanitarian issues. If, of course, the human dimension is a priority for the negotiators. But it is entirely obvious that neither Witkoff nor Kushner cares about people's fates in this war.
The Pope calls on Putin to save thousands of people from starvation in occupied Oleshky and the surrounding villages. The UN speaks about a humanitarian catastrophe and asks Russia to allow the evacuation of the civilian population. European Parliament Vice-President Pina Picierno goes on a hunger strike to draw attention to this tragedy unfolding before the eyes of the whole world.
And what are Witkoff and Kushner doing?
That's right, almost nothing.
Except for passing along greetings from Putin’s aide to the First Lady.
Thousands of people are already eating grass to survive and begging to save their lives. The Ukrainian side raises the issue of Oleshky at every meeting. And I can name dozens of such urgent humanitarian issues off the top of my head where American negotiators must be proactive.
Trump’s peace negotiations have already gone down in history as the deadliest years for Ukraine’s civilian population since the start of the full-scale invasion.
I don’t know if anyone will remember the names of Witkoff and Kushner.
But history will certainly record how American negotiators, who had the opportunity to save a huge number of people, refused to raise uncomfortable questions before "humanist Putin."
Mendel thinks that calling a war criminal who keeps killing civilians of her country "a humanitarian" is "real diplomacy". I thought diplomacy is judged by results. It's now 9th time Witkoff is in Russia. Every time he leaves after his courtesies, Putin kills more civilians.
Social media is outraged that Steve Witkoff called Putin a “humanitarian.”
But real diplomacy isn’t an X thread. We’re used to diplomacy of threats and humiliation. If Witkoff had followed that populist style, the road to Moscow would be closed—no American released today, no channel for ending the war.
Saying something difficult to an adversary is harder than posting bold metaphors online. Witkoff remains a working link that can actually help stop the fighting. Online condemnations free no one.

Amid all the sophistry about Starshield / Starlink and the promise to return service within 48 hours, frontline officers tell me they have yet to see previous speeds restored.

In recounting once again this story of the battle for Kyiv that has zero connection to reality, Trump seems to be really disappointed that Russia didn’t end the war by conquering Kyiv in four hours.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Russian tanks did use highways to Kyiv in 2022 and took heavy losses. The main reason the 40-mile convoy failed was it lacked fuel and food. Ukraine blew bridges, flooded the Irpin, and ambushed columns.

If accurate, this will not help Starlink’s business development. It will, however, inspire Congressional investigations and possibly legislation to curb the power of one unelected person to make national security decisions for the United States.

Can confirm my sources saying the same: "We are seeing loss of connectivity in various areas at speeds of 130–160 km/h."
Failure of Graham's bill to punish Russia was setup by Congress, by including the waiver. In July, I asked group of senators who supported this bill this exact question: can POTUS simply ignore your bill? The answer was: he will be under pressure to use it. Apparently he was not.

Latest: Zelenskyy tells reporters over WhatsApp that restrictions on Ukraine's Starlink systems remain. Interceptor drones can't function, logistics and operations hobbled. The maximum speed is 161 kph; "exceeding this limit causes the Starlink connection to cut out completely, resulting in the loss of the drone."
He says Ukraine has done tests to determine whether SpaceX is truly facing technical issues, as has been told Kyiv by the US side, or if this is a "deliberate operation... to restrict us, cut us off, and prevent us from defending ourselves and protecting our people, both at the front and among the civilian population."
He says Ukraine "sent a couple of vehicles equipped with Starlink terminals into European Union territory."
"They moved at speeds exceeding 180kph, and the Starlink systems worked perfectly. We have the relevant logs and evidence to prove this."
He adds: "The conclusion is clear: the restrictions are in effect within Ukraine but do not apply within the European Union. In other words, this is a planned operation."
POTUS waived Russia sanctions in the Graham law passed by Congress. But outside the fences of the White House, softening pressure on Russia is unpopular. Here's a small sample of Americans who came to see the White House. Almost everyone I talked to criticizes the diesel deal.

I think it's potentially significant that POTUS' actions re Ukraine are not popular. And hence he won't admit to throttling Starlink and he waives the Graham sanctions on a Friday night. It would probably help him politically to squeeze Putin but for some reason he won't do it.

NEW: The order to limit a satellite system used by Ukraine for battlefield communications and drone operations came from inside the White House, according to two US officials and a Western official briefed on the matter.

“These restrictions on Ukraine’s access to Starshield must stop immediately. Lives are at stake. The Pentagon is also required to notify Congress if it pauses or downgrades intelligence sharing with Ukraine. If that happens, @SecWar must provide that immediately.”-@SenatorShaheen
While Musk owns SpaceX which controls Starlink systems and can impose restrictions on them in Ukraine, those that began overnight are on the Starshield military version of the system controlled by the Pentagon. This suggests the decision to limit the speed of the Starshield systems was made within the Trump administration. ft.com/content/37085602-726a…

BREAKING!!! In a letter to Trump, a bipartisan group of 12 senators urge POTUS to reverse his deal easing sanctions on Russian diesel exports, warning the move could help fund Putin’s war effort while doing little to lower U.S. fuel prices.
