In August 2026, we handed over the first girls' washroom facility of its kind in our offgrid district.
For many girls, menstruation means missing school. No privacy, no place to change, no dignity.
This facility changes that.
It provides a private, safe space with water and sanitary supplies, so girls can manage their periods at school, stay in class, and perform better.
Constructed by ACT Uganda with support from @mundocooperante to reduce menstruation-related absenteeism.
Periods should not stop education.
Thank you @mundocooperante for making it possible .#TheRighttobeaGirl.

This year, we came together with teams from the African Disability Youth Network from Kasese for a disability-inclusive joint exchange to share and learn about safeguarding practices.
Through this engagement, we successfully developed a disability safeguarding playbook under the HIVE project, supported by Ignite Philanthropy.

DID YOU KNOW? 🤯
1 in 3 girls in Uganda experiences sexual violence BEFORE age 18.
Not strangers on the street. Often neighbors. People they know. People they should trust.
If 1 in 3 was your daughter, your sister, your niece - would you still be silent?
This is not a statistic. It's a crisis.
At ACT UGANDA, we are breaking the silence to end Violence Against Children.
Share this if you believe every girl deserves to grow up SAFE. 👇

SHE WAS MISSING 5 DAYS OF SCHOOL EVERY MONTH. NOT BECAUSE SHE WAS SICK.
Because she is a girl.
In Lamwo, this is normal. No private room. No water. No pads. So when her period comes, she stays home. 5 days a month. 40 days a term. She fails. She drops out.
We said ENOUGH.
Our girls' washroom facility is COMPLETE. And it is not just a building.
Inside:
🔒 PRIVATE ROOM- lockable, safe, clean. No shame. No fear.
👗 REUSABLE WARDROBE- to store pads that will be made by trained girls themselves. They are not just using pads, they are making their own dignity.
♨️ WARM WATER FROM BIOGAS - innovative biogas will provide warm water for warm compress during menstrual pain.
For the first time, this rural off-grid school has dignity. For the first time, girls can bleed and still learn.
Thank you @mundocoperante.You did not just build a washroom. You brought back the right to be a girl.

A debate organized for and by young people can bring out what is not known.
Today we learned that at Padibe Senior Secondary School, Lamwo District.
We organized a debate on preventing child marriage as a priority for girls' education, and we let the young people lead.
What we heard was powerful. Boys stood and spoke eloquently against child marriage. Girls spoke about their right to stay in school.
We realized child marriage is not just a girls' issue - it is a community issue, and young people understand it better than we think.
We gifted the best speaker boy and girl to encourage others to speak up.
Thank you to Padibe SSS and Girls First Fund for creating this platform with ACT Uganda.

Creating Platforms for Youth Advocacy in Lamwo District
Today, ACT Uganda with support from @GirlsFirstFund conducted a public debate at Padibe Senior Secondary School in Lamwo District.
The motion was: "This House believes that preventing child marriage should be Lamwo District's top priority for improving girls' education."
The debate brought together hundreds of students who spoke boldly against child marriage. What was most inspiring was the active participation of boys, who were eloquent in speaking against child marriage and in support of girls' education.
At ACT Uganda, we are intentional about creating platforms where young people speak for themselves, rather than speaking for them.
We recognized the best speakers, one boy and one girl, with gifts to encourage public speaking, confidence, and continued advocacy against child marriage.
We are grateful to the administration of Padibe Senior Secondary School, the students, teachers, and our partner Girls First Fund for making this engagement possible.
We believe that ending child marriage starts with giving young people a platform to speak, and today Padibe showed us that change is possible when boys and girls stand together.

From Low Income to Own Income!
These young mothers in Padibe East, Lamwo are not waiting for handouts - they are baking their future!
Through ACT UGANDA's skilling program, they learned bakery - mandazi, cakes, daddies - to boost their savings and feed their children.
This is more than baking. It's dignity. It's business. It's power.
Huge thanks to @GirlsFirstFund for believing in young mothers!

Every year, 12 million girls are married before the age of 18.
If we do nothing, what is the cost?
Lost education. Increased health risks. A lifetime trapped in poverty.
Child marriage doesn't just end a childhood — it ends futures. It steals potential, silences dreams, and keeps generations in poverty.
The cost of inaction is too high. The time to act is now.
Let's protect children's future. Let's end child marriage.

Today, our team held a community listening meeting with the Child Protection Committee in Padibe East.
They shared 5 critical child protection concerns affecting their community:
Alcoholism: Rising among parents and youth, fueling GBV and child neglect.
Poverty: Driving child marriage, transactional sex, and child labor as survival coping.
Under-reporting:Fear, stigma, and preference for informal cash settlements keep cases hidden.
Weak Referral Systems:Limited follow-up leaves survivors and at-risk children unsupported.
Exclusion of Boys & Men: Men and boys remain unengaged in preventing child marriage, teenage pregnancy, and GBV.
At ACT Uganda, we believe solutions must come from the community itself.
We are committed to strengthening awareness, referral pathways, and meaningful male engagement based on these voices.@Global4Children
