ALT Chapter 10 of a lifestyle medicine textbook: environmental influences on health. It starts with a quote from Henry David Thoreau. The quote is from “Walden: Or, Life in the Woods.” It goes: “We need the tonic of wildness...At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.” If a chapter starting like this is goes in a lifestyle medicine book, you know things will get delightfully weird as we deconstruct what it means to live a lifestyle in some kind of harmony with our natural world, building the case that our human health and the health of our natural world are inextricably linked. And they do.
