Making android apps is waaaaay less fun than iOS.
So many devices, phone makers, and the dev tools are way behind Apple.
It's painful.
it's insane how there is zero iPhone Duo inventory in the bay area.
I've been refreshing Apple Store cart since 6am (literally every 10 minutes) and setup alerts, got two and everything was gone within 60 seconds.
Went to Apple Store in Union Square and they said they had 7 devices at 10am and they were all gone within minutes.
Anyone had luck getting an iPhone Duo via Pick Up or walk-in at the Apple Store in Union Square in SF?
My delivery order is still in Jan so I am planning to go to the store early AM or try to do a pick up order at 6am.
I ordered an iPhone Duo.
For those who have had it for a few days, how useful is the cover screen for texting and quick tasks?
Did you get used to the Touch ID?
These are my main two concerns after trying it out for 20 minutes
Spent 20 minutes with the iPhone Duo.
Here is my quick review!
Like: 👍
- Gorgeous hardware and feels premium in the hand.
- Inner screen looks great and is a perfect size.
- Feels light and thin unfolded.
- Typing on big screen felt better than I expected.
Dislike: 👎
- Touch ID! I am pretty sure I would miss FaceID after a couple of days.
- The vertical tab bar when folded takes a lot of space on apps that need space
- Feels heavy and thick when folded but I think I can get used to it.
- Cover screen is shorter than I would like.
Bottom line:
This is a good 1st gen product and is perfect for those who really need a big screen on the go.
My view on foldables is that they are trying to do too much. I think with this one Apple focused on making the inner screen as perfect as possible but that comes at the expense of other things.
I am ordering one because I am an Apple fanboy and need it for testing!

CardStack for iPhone Duo is finally on the App Store!
I've put a lot of hours over nights and weekends to make the app work well on the Duo.
This update also bring a split-column design for the iPad.

Foldable phones are like flying cars.
A bad idea.
They are both bad at driving and flying.
It's been a lot of fun trying the Duo out for a week, but it feels like I've gotten to use an extraordinarily polished prototype — not a finished product that I'd want to buy and carry.
