These contradictions no longer seem to register but it is astounding that this backroom deal has been unfolding as the Trump administration raises the alarm--often with false claims--about Russian & Chinese investment and influence in Greenland. nytimes.com/2026/10/23/us/po…

Tomorrow, DHS is slated to begin uprooting thousands of saguaro cacti on the Tohono O’odham Nation, marking the first step in what could become the Trump administration’s most contentious border wall battle yet. The tribe is condemning the plans in the strongest possible terms.

Actions exempt from NEPA under the proposed categorical exclusion for wintertime oil/gas exploration in the NPRA, a 23 million acre chunk of land on Alaska's North Slope. This will undoubtedly be challenged in court, which could complicate plans for drilling & seismic this winter

From the Senate's new permitting bill. State's would be able to assume responsibility for implementing what is arguably the most important provision of the Endangered Species Act. This would be a massive change to the ESA, and will be *very* controversial.

Still getting records related to a 2012 FBI investigation of Tar Sands Blockade, a group of activists in Texas who were part of a tree sit on private property seeking to block the govt's use of eminent domain to build the KXL pipeline. FBI is releasing only 5/50 responsive pages.

This was a non-violent campaign involving a tree sit on property belonging to David Daniel, an east Texas resident who opposed the pipeline but could really do nothing to stop it. FBI characterized these individuals as "environmental extremists" & potential "domestic terrorists."

For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026. At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day. It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime. Massacre at Minab: The School That Became a Grave dropsitenews.com/p/minab-sch… Please share this story with as many people as you can.

Findings in our Intercept story --ballistics expert for Song’s defense team was not granted approval to meet w/defendant --evidence that supports an alternative theory of what happened on July 4, 2025, withheld from defense until trial --photographic evidence of bullet used...
Replying to @adamfederman
Story includes the first interview with a ballistics expert hired by Benjamin Song's defense team who was denied access to the defendant before the trial, the first time this has happened in his 25 year career.

One last item: Song's appellate lawyer--appointed by the same court in Northern District of TX that oversaw the trial--said he hadn't yet met with his client or figured out what he'd include in the appeal. “What my opinions are about anything will show up in my brief,” he said.
