In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.

Chi Phi rapists at Cornell were going around and calling their friends to get help covering up a gang rape that took place at the frat house.
Every new information makes it clear that it was a coverup by the university, that the members of the fraternity knew a rape has occurred and were actively ensuring they would be able to bury it. Even going so far as to try to recruit other students to help them cover it up.
According to the record, a student who had been at the Chi Phi house the night of the alleged assault told a Title IX investigator she got a call the next day from one of the accused men. cbsn.ws/4yrEGHz

Trapping customers in subscriptions is against the law.

Nobody should be stuck paying for a subscription they don’t want because of how absurdly difficult firms make it to cancel.
I’m thrilled that @nycmayor is carrying forward a “click to cancel” rule to protect NYC from this misconduct.
More cities and states should follow suit.

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV’s AI encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.

BREAKING: Gov. Kathy Hochul has removed the Cornell rape investigation from the local district attorney and appointed New York Attorney General Letitia James as special prosecutor.
The move is a major escalation after Hochul said she lost confidence in the Tompkins County DA’s handling of the case. James now has authority to independently investigate the assault and prosecute if warranted.
The case had already been reopened after new evidence surfaced in a civil lawsuit.

Today, I am filing a lawsuit against Columbia University and SIPA Dean Keren Yarhi-Milo for their gross and systemic discrimination against Palestinian students at Columbia. I am joined in this action by my friends at the Palestine Working Group.
Columbia laid the groundwork for my targeting by the Trump administration through its deliberate indifference and discrimination aimed at intimidating Palestinian students. For over two years, we pleaded with Columbia. Columbia did not care. Our safety and our wellbeing did not serve the ideological project its Board of Trustees was protecting, so they traded us away.
We are suing because no student should ever have to go through the hell Columbia put us through all these years.
I will continue to seek accountability for all the wrongs that were done to me and my peers. Next, I will turn to the hateful individuals at Columbia who were also responsible for what we endured. Stay tuned.
