Auburn game was weird as fuck but rather clear Georgia is best team in country (even with a healthy toney).
In what world is this years qb draft loaded?
Let’s think through the Ravens and Lamar and see if it’s a real possibility.
It would be really hard for the Ravens to find a better QB so they’re not letting him walk. That means a trade.
There would be plenty of interest, even with an injured thumb, but with a draft that is expected to be loaded with good QBs, maybe the interest is a little lower than the Ravens might hope. Plus the issue of the contract. It’d have to be heavily reworked for any team to take on next year’s number. Reminder, Lamar is his own agent meaning he’d have to negotiate that rework while also finding a team he’d like to go to so he can waive his no-trade clause.
As-is today, the Ravens would end up with ~$75M in dead money but get back $9.5M in cap space if they can make a trade prior to the upcoming draft. If they do the trade post-June 1, it’s cuts the dead money in half and cap savings are $52M. But going post-June 1 means they don’t get picks for this year.
A team trading for Lamar is going to have to give up 2 1sts, minimum. And that’s only if they have an early 1st round pick this year. It’s probably higher if the Simmons trade is the ruler now. Plus they’re going to have to extend Lamar for mega money, meaning you’ve gotta have the cap space, too. You’re not giving up picks like that for a 1-year rental.
In short: It’s really complicated. Unless a team is just convinced Lamar is the answer for them long term and does something bananas, it’s highly unlikely anything gets done and Lamar remains a Raven next year. Not impossible he gets traded, just highly unlikely.
Don’t see how trading lamelo puts them in better position to take step forward in the future. Was just a dumb trade:
