Absolutely thrilled to add this awesome challenge coin to my collection last night. I am so lucky to know all of my great friends.
President Trump gave Joe Ellis TWO Air Force One flyovers, as many old friends gathered to celebrate the life of Joe Ellis last night. The view from the top floor balcony of the Hay Adams was unbelievable.
Joe was a true southern gentleman, a consummate Advance man and a friend to many of us over the past 30 years. He is, and will long be missed.
Joe died in a tragic accident while traveling overseas in advance of a Presidential trip. As best as we’ve been able to ascertain, it was the first time an Advance man has died supporting a president on an OCONUS trip. He died “with his boots on”, doing what he loved.
One of the speakers read a poem attributed to the Indian chief Tecumseh. It certainly holds a lesson for all of us still living.
Live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart.
Trouble no one about their religion.
Respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours.
Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life.
Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people.
Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.
Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place.
Show respect to all people and grovel to none.
When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.
Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes, they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way.
Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
—Chief Tecumseh (c.1800)
(Tecumseh’s name meant “Blazing Comet”. The room pretty much agreed that is what “Joe Ellis” meant in our language, as well!)
RIP
This was some solid Advance work. Kudos to the team. THAT is the golden hour, glowing on antiquity. #GoodAdvance
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Bob Dole ‘96 30 year reunion tonight!
Ping me if you are in DC and still need the details.

Well…I guess that is one perspective:
