In one of Delhi-NCR's top schools, parents are planning to pool-in funds to buy Dyson/Honeywell/Sharp Purifiers for their children's Nursery classrooms, for the upcoming bad-AQI season.
Some parents logically asked, "Why doesn't the school buy these air purifiers?" The school said that their AC systems have HEPA filters, to take care of dust to some extent. Unconvincing. Parents decided to go ahead with their own safety systems.
Next, they asked- "What happened to the Air Purifiers that the classroom had last year? The previous batch too had purifiers with AQI monitors."
School's response: "The air purifiers travel with the batch of children. As the students move up a year, the Air Purifiers do too. So the Purifiers that were in first grade last year, are in second grade now."
Welcome to the incredibly complex world of public-health moving into private hands.

With the greatest respect to the learned former Judge of the Supreme Court, the law on peace bonds seems to have been reported with rather more poetry than precision.
A bond under Section 126 BNSS (old Section 107 CrPC) is a promise to keep the peace, not to keep quiet. It does not bar anyone from joining a public demonstration. Peaceful protest is protected by Article 19, and breach of the peace is something quite different.
Nor does the police officer decide that a bond has been breached. Under Section 141 BNSS (old Section 122), the breach must be proved before a Magistrate. Even then, the consequence is simple imprisonment for the unexpired period of the bond, at most a year, and forfeiture of the amount. That is hardly "jail for long periods."
Executing a bond is also no apology to the Crown. It admits no guilt. As the Supreme Court held in Madhu Limaye, the jurisdiction is preventive, not punitive. Equating it with the mercy petitions of the colonial era does injustice both to the history and to the law.
As for Neha Bora, she has not refused any bond, because none has yet been demanded of her. The Delhi High Court has ensured that none can be demanded until the inquiry has begun and reasons are recorded.
And the barbers of India, an honest trade, deserve better than the couplet.

The gang of Four
By Justice Katju
The 4 top Cockroach Janta Party leaders, Abhijeet Dipke, Saurabh Das, Ashutosh Ranka, and Ajinkya Shinde have all signed peace bonds, which means they cannot join any public demonstrations, otherwise the police will say they have breached their bonds by disturbing the peace and will arrest them, and lock them in jail for long periods.
In my opinion by signing peace bonds the public career of these 4 persons is finished, because they have lost all credibility in the public eye, which now regards them as cowards who were afraid of going to jail.
In fact they will be regarded as collaborators, because they will be regarded like the persons whom the British authorities imprisoned, and who were released on asking for forgiveness.
I only respect Neha Bora who has refused to give a peace bond, as she says it is her constitutional right to peacefully demonstrate.
I call Abhijeet Dipke and the other 3 CJP leaders as the gang of four. There is a couplet about them :
" Jab padi maar shamsheeran ki
To maharaj main naayi hun "
These persons posed to be tigers ( sher ), but have been revealed to be barbers ( naayi )

But who cares about law in this lawless city?
VIDEO | Delhi: Reacting to the judicial custody of CJP co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, CJP legal head Ratna Singh says, "We have been here since morning. We were told that the entire hearing would take place at 12.00 pm. Today, everything was complete, the verification was done, and all requirements were met. We have been waiting here since noon. The SEM (Special Executive Magistrate) was at the police station by 1:30 pm, but he did not enter the courtroom until 5.00 pm. When he finally arrived, he refused to hear our case on its merits regarding whether Saurav and Ashutosh should be released from judicial custody. Instead, he made arbitrary remarks. The public prosecutor, who had not appeared at the police station for the last four days, was present today. Within about five minutes of the proceedings, the SEM told the court that he had received a threatening message. From that point on, the entire discussion revolved solely around that message. It is clear that this entire episode was orchestrated. They had decided beforehand to come into the courtroom and focus exclusively on this alleged threatening message, completely bypassing whether the formalities required for Saurav and Ashutosh's release were fulfilled. Given how this process has been deliberately delayed and handled, I am utterly disappointed..."

This is a deep scar on the festivities in Kolkata.
A stampede-like situation broke out at a Durga Puja pandal in North Kolkata on Saturday, leaving several people injured.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari and Chief Secretary Manoj Agarwal have reached Calcutta Medical College to take stock of the situation.
According to early reports, the incident took place at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Puja pandal. The injured have been moved to the hospital.
Former Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has expressed shock at the incident and wished the injured speedy recovery.
"Deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the stampede at the Chore Bagan Puja Pandal. I pray to Maa Durga for the speedy recovery of all those injured and for strength and courage for their families during this difficult time," she wrote on X.

The consequence of this mélange of petitions filed before the SC will be months of chaotic hearings, culminating in some “guidelines” that will be broad and vague enough to further entrench state impunity and further narrow civil rights. Repeating pattern.
The problem with SC proceedings is that there is almost no evidentiary basis for things. Statements are casually made and accepted. What technological advance has happened since the 2018 judgment? Internet, mobiles and social media were thriving in 2018 too!
🚨Denotification of Jantar Mantar as Protest Site🚨
Justice Bagchi says that the petitioners are claiming that the protest site should be near place where they could be heard according to MKSS precedent but now with technology, this changes.

How different are independent India’s preventive detention laws than the Rowlatt Act (Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act, 1919)? Known as the Black Act, the British devised it to curb dissent and authorized detention without trial upto 2 years to break public spirit.

It will take another Petticoat absconder to undo this! 🤓
A notice issued by Anurag Kumar, Delhi Police Commissioner, reads:
"Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, had constituted a Committee to examine alternative proper venues for citizen's right for organizing protest/demonstrations in place of the existing "designated site".
Based on the Committee's recommendations, Jantar Mantar as a protest venue has been de-notified. Three new venues viz Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground, East Delhi have been designated as new venues for organizing protest/demonstrations.
Detailed and revised SOP for organizing protest/demonstrations at these three venues will be issued separately. This is in partial modification of earlier Standing Order No. L&O/48/22 dated 28.04.2022."
Under the guidance of @vrindagrover, my colleague @dtulsiani1 and I appeared before the Court of SEM, Delhi Cantt this morning. The Court was pleased to release @abhijeet_dipke @SauravDassss @AshutoshRanka from preventive detention with no exceptional conditions imposed.
What are the issues that Supreme Court and Delhi HC took suo motu cognizance for?
By 10am, brutality and detentions were happening outside the court premises itself. Senior Advocate Shadan Farasat got dragged mercilessly on the streets. Yet not one Justice saw it fit? Shame.
