Institutional racism is why you don’t hear voices of marginalised communities in the policy making space. Ministers like @YvetteCooperMP
@bphillipsonMP @jessphillips
should always question officials why no diverse voices at meetings. It’s due to racism.

#SayNoToGiftVouchers - Tokenistic vouchers are degrading. Researchers and academic institutions must adopt fair and ethical compensation practices, treating survivors of MS and community organisations as equal partners in the research process. 🔗bmeantislavery.org/

Worried about the state of the care system for children and young people? Ofsted’s inspection reports for children’s homes from the past few days make bleak reading. Buckle up for a long🧵

Same happened to Timothy Adeoye. Went missing when he was 13. No safeguarding, no help, no support. 5 years later he killed another person. Now serving life in prison. Society is the loser.

A Met police officer told Nigerian women ‘not to call the police on their husbands’ & to ‘manage it’, during a meeting at a church which has sparked outrage from abuse campaigners. The video has now been referred to their standards unit. mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/me…

How to prevent modern slavery?
@SlaveryPEC-commissioned research carried out by the @sheffielduni, @afruca & @WestMidsASN identified five pathways to prevent sexual and labour exploitation in the UK.
The framework points to the need to look beyond policies strictly developed to tackle #modernslavery and address wider factors that could contribute to creating conditions that can put people at risk of exploitation.

Many young people in our care system struggle to survive, often falling prey to criminal or radical groups due to their vulnerabilities. This is a big problem and it's not going away unless we protect their future's.
By making care experience a protected characteristic, we can prevent this from happening. Our underfunded, overlooked care system needs urgent reform to avoid greater future costs. Children in care are still children.

The epidemic of femicide in the UK should be declared a national emergency. Too many girls and women are senselessly being killed by men. Surely we can act to address it? Another woman/girl will be killed in the next three days by a man. Depressing.
