Kieran Crowley is one of the best and most experienced head coaches who is currently a free agent. Over his career he has mainly taken over bad teams and gotten them to improve and his record for nearly 20 years is very consistent on that yet rarely got the praise or credit he deserved. - 🇨🇦 Canada: took over after a disappointing RWC and wave of retirements. He improved them a lot, upskilled several players, and they were playing some good rugby and very close to beating Scotland & Italy. They missed him once he had left and players like Tyler Ardron called him "one of the best coaches I've ever worked with". - Benetton: took over a team that had just won 3 games from 28 the previous season and rock bottom of the Pro12. In a couple seasons got to them to top 6 in Pro14 and one of their best seasons only narrowly missing the semi finals. - 🇮🇹 Italy: took over a team that had a worst ever pts difference of -184 in 2021 Six Nations and been awful for years and in a couple years reduced that pts difference to -60 and got scalps over Wales & Australia. Admittedly the last two games of RWC 2023 meant he did leave on a very low note however. - Mie Honda Heat: took over a team that was one of the very worst in the league, losing by huge margins initially, they only got 1 win in his first season, but the longer he was there those margins reduced and by his third season that 1 win turned into 7 and from they got a top 8 finish before he departed the club this summer having again left them in a much better place than when he took over. Incidentally whilst his coaching career has turned into one largely taking over lower table struggling teams the one time in his coaching career he got to coach a strong team was 🇳🇿 New Zealand U19 they won the Junior World Cup in 2007 with an aggregate score of 245-52 over 5 games. So wonder what he could have done given a chance to coach a stronger team. In any case, although he is 65 now, he would make an excellent appointment for Harlequins who perhaps mistakenly extended Jason Gilmore despite frequent poor performances. He would also be a very good appointment should he ever wish to return to Canada one day as well, but would see him joining any "Tier 2" nation again as welcome news. He is imo maybe one of the most underrated head coaches of the last 20 years.

The longer I coach, the more I realize that the secret to being a great coach isn't designing cutting edge training, it's the ability to repeatedly and consistently avoid doing dumb stuff.

Wow! Tom Brady may have just delivered the greatest quote I’ve ever heard. “To be successful at anything, the truth is you don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined and willing to work for it.”
