Friends, the laity are meant to practice obedience in a manner distinctive to the lay state. This means a willingness to follow the higher voice of God rather than the voice of one鈥檚 own ego. It is to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
I鈥檝e often spoken about Hans Urs von Balthasar鈥檚 distinction between the ego-drama (the story written, produced, directed by, and starring oneself) and the theo-drama (the one written, produced, and directed by God).
We might say that the entire point of the spiritual life is to break free of the former鈥攁 preoccupation with our own wealth, success, career plans, or personal pleasure鈥攕o as to embrace the latter.
And this requires obedience to God鈥攁n attentiveness to his voice and a willingness to follow it.
Picture what our country would look like if, right now, every Catholic decided to live in obedience to the voice of God. How much of the suffering caused by our own ego-dramas would be diminished!
So, @RepThomasMassie, now would be a good time to start releasing those Epstein Files names, don鈥檛 you think?

Friends, I don鈥檛 think we Christians fully understand how radically we must think about the goal of the Christian life. It is not to become a nice person. An atheist can be a nice person.
The goal is to become a new creation, someone living the very life of God. Jesus is the Son of God by nature, but we become sons and daughters of God by adoption, brought into a share in his life like a child welcomed into a family and their home.
That鈥檚 what it means to be a saint: to be invited into the household of God, and to worship God by eating and drinking the body and blood of Jesus, becoming assimilated unto him.
