The Department of Education plays a key role in our children's success, providing funding for over 2.6 million students in NY alone.
I was proud to stand with @GovKathyHochul & teachers in NYC to fight for our children's futures. The White House cannot shut down the department.
Coming up at top of 8a @SenGillibrand live on “Mornings on 1” with @patkiernan @JamieStelter , talking tariffs, Trump EO’s, congestion pricing and more. @NY1

I'm standing with members of the New York delegation in NYC today to demand Republicans end their cap on the state & local tax (SALT) deduction.
This unfair policy created a system of double taxation, & it's well past time Republicans fix their mistake.
After working for ERA champions @CarolynBMaloney and @SenGillibrand, I never thought this day would come.
Being free and equal under the law are the guiding principals our nation was founded on, and now it’s actually true.
Today I'm affirming what I have long believed and what three-fourths of the states have ratified:
The 28th Amendment is the law of the land, guaranteeing all Americans equal rights and protections under the law regardless of their sex.

The Archivist of the United States, charged with officially publishing ratified amendments, has confirmed that the ERA was not ratified and based that analysis on binding legal precedent.
There is no 28th Amendment.

I am incredibly honored to serve as DSCC chair for the 2026 cycle. From now until Election Day, I will work my hardest to support our Democratic incumbents, recruit the strongest possible candidates, and ensure they have every resource needed to win.

I'm deeply disappointed the spending bill passed last night didn't include permanent funding for the World Trade Center Health Program.
I'll never stop fighting to make sure survivors & responders get the care they need, & I'll continue to make this a top priority next Congress.
Earlier today, the national archivist preemptively stated that she would not legally certify the Equal Rights Amendment as part of the Constitution.
By taking this unprecedented step, she is wrongfully inserting herself into a clear constitutional process, though her role is purely ministerial.
Our argument has the support of legal experts, twenty-three attorneys general, the League of Women Voters, and the American Bar Association. I remain undaunted, and will continue to urge President Biden to direct the archivist to certify and publish the ERA and codify equality in the Constitution.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While the ERA has been ratified by 38 states, it had only been ratified by 35 before expiration of the ratification deadline in 1982. Lawmakers in 5 states have since voted to rescind their earlier approvals and the DOJ has upheld that the ratification period had ended.

Just got great news from our partners in D.C.!
Congress is taking major steps towards regulating lithium-ion batteries with new national safety standards.
Thank you, @SenSchumer, and all who worked tirelessly to get this done! This will prevent devastating fires and save lives.
