I’ve been saying this for 20 years - Scotland’s renewables rip off has been a corporate bonanza for venture capital and foreign multi nationals meanwhile public services and communities get shafted - it’s a huge missed opportunity
This is what a €70m investment in a Northern European airport looks like.
By comparison, Edinburgh Airport will have all the grace of an out of town retail park by the time they’ve spent £500m.
We, and our visitors, deserve better.
I’m more interested in the “how”.
This will be investment by spreadsheet with little aspiration towards design quality. That’s not good value for the public or the nation.
Likely to be a missed opportunity to create a memorable gateway to the world.
Why is £500m being invested in Edinburgh Airport over the next five years?

Paying attention yet?
Norwegian researchers drove a Chinese EV into a mine to cut it off from the world. It still tried to call home.
The project is called Project Lion Cage. Tor Indstøy, a Telenor security executive, monitored his own NIO ES8 SUV for years. About 90% of the connections he logged went to Chinese servers, even though NIO tells European customers their data is processed in Europe.
The car carries cameras, microphones, location tracking and always-on modems. Most traffic is encrypted, so researchers could see where it went, not what it held. That is the gap. China's National Intelligence Law requires companies to assist state intelligence work. Nobody has proven spying. The question is who can be forced to hand over the feed.
A separate test by Oslo transit operator Ruter found the Chinese Yutong bus could be reached by its maker through software updates, including battery and power systems. Yutong says it cannot control steering or brakes.
Countries buying cheap Chinese EVs should expect to ask what else comes with the price.
Is a lower sticker price worth putting a Chinese-controlled sensor on every street?
Three young women on the train heading to college.
“I use the trainline, can’t use the @Scotrail app”
“Aye, @ScotRail app’s a total disaster”
“I might start driving in”
These continual failures won’t achieve modal shift. Please get it sorted, @StephenFlynnSNP.
That’ll be the @ScotRail App failing at rush hour.
What a monumental failure this rollout has been and another reminder of just how badly served Scotland is by our public transport networks.

Scot Gov has just appointed a new Special Adviser on education, culture and Gaelic.
Their only qualification for the job seems to be 4 years working for the SNP events team. Literally zero relevant experience.
A total insult to serious people in these sectors.

The rumours of Glasgow’s demise are grossly exaggerated. I’ve been cycling about today thinking, what a totally smoking city. I’ve been all over the world this year, but I wouldn’t live anywhere else.
What an appallingly framed headline by @STVNews for a new, fairer pay and grading system which the article confirms will see 63% of those affected gain financially.
This is a huge moment ensuring (mainly) female workers receive parity of pay after years of discrimination.

The laws of the game are clear. Willie Collum took the unprecedented step of intervening with a statement during the broadcast.
The SFA justification can only be that Hogh’s arm is not making his body “unnaturally bigger” which is clearly not the case.

Always found this video interesting.
Thirteen year olds in Norway playing games on a 7-a-side pitch.
In Scotland, 13 year olds will be on a full-size 11s pitch.
Think of all the touches and pressure in tight spaces for the Norwegians. No surprise they’ve produced some of the players they have.
