NEW: Pope Leo has written from hospital to the Amoris Laetitia conference He says he will read the final document soon & urges the bishops to share “what you have lived and received, and to continue proclaiming the Gospel with families, drawing on the richness of Amoris Laetitia.” Due to his surgery, the conference's final document will not be published until Leo has read it, thus it will emerge at an as yet unspecified date.

Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora have provided the following update on the Pope’s postoperative recovery: This morning, the Holy Father underwent the blood tests and chest X-ray scheduled after surgery. The results confirm that his postoperative recovery is progressing normally: the values are within the expected range for the type of operation performed. The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking around his room. He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch. His recovery is proceeding as expected.

EXCELLENT PROGNOSIS: "If they manage to get the whole lung cancer out and it hasn’t spread and they don’t need to do further treatment, the prognosis is really excellent... If it’s under three centimeters it can be as good as 90% or more and especially because he appears to be in good health and reportedly not a smoker, all of that will help." @DrMarcSiegel Dr. Siegel explains that because the cancerous lobe was successfully removed and catch rates are high for localized nodules, the prognosis is remarkably strong, especially given the Pope's good overall health and non-smoking status. Medical teams are now monitoring lung expansion and awaiting final pathology margin results.

Prayers for Pope Leo today & some words of caution after tonight's medical bulletin about @Pontifex health: 1) We know the lung nodule removed was cancerous, so we know he HAD cancer, but we don't know that he still has it. Only further diagnostics will reveal this for sure
