Software as self-expression is beautiful ❤️
One of the concepts I’ve been thinking a lot about lately is that AI dramatically changes the supply-side economics of creating content, software, games, etc., but doesn’t necessarily change consumer demand. Consumers have always been interested in sex, money, and status at a base level. Perhaps a more generous view is self-expression, community, and experiences that move them forward on their personal hero’s journey. I think a real challenge for consumer founders is connecting these supply-side miracles to latent consumer demand. True customer empathy is very rare, and so much of software is an act of self-expression rather than an act of creating utility or joy for the customer. Founders love the software they make because it tells their story, but customers are interested in their own stories.

I love that yubikeys are suddenly cool. Had a whole drawer of them ready and now can give them to my friends as needed. 🤓

Guide for your friends who are confused about this cybersecurity apocalypse happening right now. Finally everything the privacy people have been saying for years is extremely relevant. Unplug those smart devices and have a go bag ready ;)

My stated preferences: I want to go tango dancing tonight. My revealed preferences: I want to stay in my apartment filing compliance paperwork until midnight.

Nearly every phone and computer on Earth relies on one plain-text file to know what time it is. When a country changes its clocks with a few weeks’ notice, or Morocco pauses daylight saving for Ramadan, someone has to update that file. Since 02005, that someone has been Paul Eggert, a computer science professor at UCLA, who does it as a volunteer.  Take a look at this great data visualization to see the full story:  na2.hubs.ly/H08qtQC0

United Airlines has just introduced an awesome new @Starlink Wi-Fi tracker that not only makes it easy to find out if your flight has Starlink, but also gives real-time Starlink installation progress for their fleet. United has now installed Starlink on 43% of its fleet, with 639 aircraft now equipped. It even breaks down what percent of flights from each hub have Starlink, as well as installation progress by aircraft type. Really cool! Tracker: starlinktracker.united.com/p…

SF and NYC are extremely exciting, fun cities but somehow I feel more relaxed and happy when I'm back in Austin. Totally vibes based. I'll still keep spending time in all 3 cities.

I feel lucky to live in Austin and to have been here for the cybercab launch.
I almost feel like Cybercab alone is a good enough reason to visit Austin. Especially if you’re a Tesla shareholder. Expansion to Dallas is imminent. Probably Houston, Miami, Vegas, etc soon The speed at which Cybercab has transformed the fabric of Austin still shocks me. This is coming much faster than people think. Tesla’s FSD software has already driven 15 billion miles and done a decade of testing on millions of vehicles. With 100% build in America technology, Elon Musk’s land spaceship empire has reached its final form and is ready to change Earth's transportation system ⚡️

Most of what we call human intelligence lives at the level of society, not the individual. None of us knows how to build a toaster from scratch on our own, yet together we can get to the moon. The most capable AI today operates the same way: as societies of models.
