Wonderful visit with @lornecoe, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security, and MPP Bill Rosenberg at Algoma University’s Sault Ste. Marie Campus.
A transformative investment in the future of our students. 🎓
Algoma University is honoured to receive a $1.5 million gift from the Joyce Family Foundation, establishing a new renewable bursary program for first-year local students who demonstrate financial need and personal resilience.
Through this generous gift, 12 students will receive $5,000 per year toward their studies, for up to four years. The bursaries are designed to help students who may face barriers to post-secondary education, including First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and first-generation learners.
The gift reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that access to higher education is not determined by circumstance, while creating opportunities that can have a lasting impact on students, their families and our region.
Thank you to the Joyce Family Foundation for this extraordinary investment in Algoma University students and for continuing Ron Joyce’s legacy of creating opportunities for young Canadians. We are incredibly grateful for your confidence in our students and their potential. ❤️
Yesterday, Algoma University was honoured to welcome Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security and Charmaine Williams, Associate Minister of Women’s Social and Economic Opportunity, to our Brampton campus following their visit with ELO.
ELO is a Brampton-based technology company developing immersive extended reality (XR) and gaming solutions. Through an applied Computer Science project, Algoma University students collaborated with ELO to develop website software and work on the hardware components for future projects, gaining valuable hands-on experience while solving real-world challenges.
One of those students, Dhruv Kalra, has since graduated from Algoma University's Computer Science program and now works full-time at ELO. His journey from student project to professional career is a strong example of how applied learning, faculty mentorship, and industry collaboration prepare Algoma graduates for success in Ontario's growing technology sector.
During their visit, Minister Quinn and Minister Williams met with Algoma University administration and Computer Science faculty to learn more about the University's approach to experiential learning, innovation, and industry collaboration.
Thank you to Minister Quinn, Minister Williams, and the ELO team for taking the time to visit our Brampton campus and recognize the value of partnerships that are helping prepare the next generation of technology professionals.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2026 Algoma University Golf Classic! ⛳
Together, our golfers, sponsors, alumni, and community supporters helped raise an incredible $35,000 in support of student scholarships and bursaries.
This year’s proceeds will support the new Graduate Studies Fund, helping master’s students pursue their academic goals and thrive right here in our community.
Since its inception, the Golf Classic has raised more than $655,000 to support Algoma University students. Thank you for making a difference. ❤️

Each has unique cultures, languages, histories and traditions woven into communities across Canada.
On June 20, visit Garden Square during the #BramptonFarmersMarket for Brampton’s National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration, featuring Indigenous-owned vendors, community information booths and music from DJ 5rivers.
Thank you to our generous sponsor, @AlgomaU, and to the Government of Canada for its support.
